Story behind the song
I wrote this about donating a kidney to my father.
Lyrics
Daddy Don’t You Die On Me
Daddy I just wanna spend a little more time with you
After all we been through
Like the day you taught me how to drive on the ice
We had a blast—just you and me
Two kids at heart spinnin’ free
Memories like these put me on my knees
Prayin’ God Keeps you alive
Daddy don’t you die on me
Don’t you get tired and leave
Without you here—where would I be
Daddy don’t you die on me
Our kidneys are a “perfect match”
Hell—I coulda told you that
We’re goin’ fishin’ soon
And that’s a fact; we’ll get there right about noon
I think you’ll like my fiance
Her pretty face is always on my mind
I found her daddy—fair and square
Think I’ll keep her—ain’t that how it goes
Daddy don’t you die on me
Don’t you get tired and leave
Without you here—where would I be
Daddy don’t you die on me
They gave me a lot of tests
Poked and prodded until I bled
After which the doctor said…
A little beer is good for people like us
They say everything went well
I’m kinda numb, so I really can’t tell
Won’t be workin’ for a good two months
And that’s just fine with me
Got a lot of fishin’ to do
Big Stone Lake—just you and me catchin’ a few
I’m so thankful God has let you stay
He knew my heart surely would break
Daddy don’t you die on me
Don’t you get tired and leave
Without you here—where would I be
Daddy don’t you die on me
Don’t you get tired and leave
Without you here—where would I be
Daddy don’t you die on me
