Dr Pickup is a three piece Paris based blues band. Started in the 90s doing classic blues covers and since the mid 90s have been adding in their own compositions.
Dr Pickup is Bruce Stringkiller on guitar and vocals, David Vodka on bass and vocals and Papy Jack on the drums.
Their latest CD is Raisin the Bar which is 9 original songs and one from Shrimp City Slim (Charleston SC) in the studio and live. Yep that makes 20 tracks.
Just added some more live extracts of these songs.Band/artist history
See the Dr Pickup website, we have gone through about 7 versions of the band.

We have had some great players plays with us, the first that comes to mind is Fred Yonnet (www.fredyonnet.com/) who is now rightly rated as one of the best harmonica players in the world. He just wanted to play the blues on top of his TV and session work. What an attitude and what a gentleman on top of the most fantastic musicianship and team spirit.
I think what has been great is that most of the guys in the band had attitude and pushed everyone else to go further than they thought they could and audiences really get off on that.
My biggest regret was when Robert Jackson, a GIT graduate, who had come in on bass but ended up doing a nightly set on guitar because he's so good asked to leave the band as on Sunday mornings he was conducting choirs and orchestras in cathedrals and that did not fit in with leaving clubs at three or four in the morning after some blistering blues sets. he really had that Rev Billy Gibbons shit down pat.
What goes round comes round - Papy Jack (aka Jack Vodka) was an original founding member on bass rejoined the band in 2004 on the drums and is doing a great job.Have you performed in front of an audience?See and hear 15 years of concert pictures on our web site.
The problem in Paris is less and less bars are doing live music and some basically want you to play all night for free. So we do more corporate gigs, golf clubs and are now aiming to do festivals around Europe and the US.
Your musical influences
All the Afro-American icons from Delta, Chigago, New Orleans, Texas. These musicians of the 20th century are still not fully recognised in their own country. From Louis Armstrong, the Alan Lomax plantation recordings, the American Blues festivals in the 60s in Europe. Otis Rush, Hubert Sumlin, Buddy Guy, Magic Sam, Howling Wolf, Luther Tucker, Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Little Walter, Robert Johnson, Freddie et Albert King, BB King, Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Mick Taylor, Jimi Hendrix, John Moreshead,The Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, Snooks Eaglin, Ronnie Earl, Duke Robillard, Otis Spann and that's just scratching the surface ;-)
These guys do it for us. Hey we aren't forgotting Etta James, Koko Taylor, Ruth Brown and all the ladies - the list just goes on and on.
If these guys came from the UK they would all have knighthoods and yet when we come to the US they STILL are not household names. What equipment do you use?
See the website, Stringkiller is suffering from GAS - Guitar acquisition syndrome - in a bad way.
But that's all well and good but we feel it's not the gear but the head and heart behind that counts.Anything else?
The moment is now, so enjoy and blow that horn or start listening to our songs and give us your feedback. We love feedback especially if it is melodic ;-)Contact
