Stone Mountain Crew
Original Music is the name of the game... Tired of the repetitive music on the radio, I set out to create an all-original style. I have been playing (mostly acoustic) guitar and singing for about 6 years now. No offense to the cover bands out there, but I tend to shy away from any covers because of my own writing. I am only at the meager age of 20, but I like to think the music doesn't suffer from it :-) Because of the music originality mentioned before I have never met a person who could pinpoint the genre of Stone Mountain.
The Arkansas Times classified my music as "...unique rock/modern-folk sound" when I competed as a semifinalist in the Times' Musician Showcase 2005 (a competition featuring original music only). They described Stone Mountain as, "..competitive, not to mention fun.." during our performance in February
On some of the tunes I had a drummer and bass player sitting in with me, but they had other priorities in their lives beside the music.
Now we have a new drummer--Congo Phredd--and a new bassist--Tophat Monkey! We are working on new recordings--which we will eventually get up on this site. Until then--we hope everyone enjoys what we have here
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Started in 2004 with a couple of other guys. They kept talking about writing songs...we need new songs...where are the new songs....songs....songs...songs.
I finally decided, OK, I'll write some songs. The other guys got too busy, but I found that this is what I was meant to do.
So here I am with all my songs...making a solo acoustic album...and playing locally..one day at a time.
6/21/05--With the summer solstice Stone Mountain Crew now has a new drummer and bassist. Congo Phredd is a drummer with over 30 years of experience. Our bassist, Tophat Monkey, has played in the states and was even in a band in Mexico for awhile. Look for new and improved recordings on soundclick, SOON!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I have played live several times. Arkansas Musician Showcase 2005 semifinalist competition was great--so was playing at the Fox and Hound.
Your musical influences
Many many influences such as Dave Matthews Band, Bob Marley, Neil Young, Led Zepplin, Tool, and Jim Croce. But mostly in their ablility to transmit pure feeling into their music
