STIGMATASL
Enter 2007, and Stigmata have a strong unit, have an unparalleled vision to conquer all their goals and have carved a sound that is unique, intense, psychedelically trippy, brutal but intricate with light and shade nuances, melodic, progressive, always challenging yet accessible. What separates Stigmata from the rest of the world is that the band (although in their early 20âs) have their feet planted in their roots, have played pubs and clubs and honed their sound for 4 or 5 years before hitting the industry with their highly experimental, unpredictable style and sound.
Stigmata launched 'Silent Chaos Serpentine' on the 25th February, 2006 at My Kind Of Place (Taj Samudra) to a sold out crowd, and in less than 4 months have headlined numerous concerts and festivals including a phenomenally successful tour of Maldives. Stigmata hope to tour India, Dubai and other parts of the world soon.
What should grab your attention is how a band that is a mystical grey in an industry with no proper studios, media/press backing and infrastructure have managed to position, segregate themselves from the masses and have marketed themselves with a truly unique 'Asian' Hard Rock/Metal Sound combined with Latin, Classical, Jazz, Baila and Eastern Rhythms.
'Innovation will never be compromised' has been at the core of Stigmata's existence. Since its inception in 1999, Stigmata have played a countless number of concerts; headlined countless open air festivals, amphitheaters, auditoriums and clubs/pubs, penetrated music charts, received acclaimed reviews from international magazines/webzines, successfully toured overseas to having their âSilent Chaos Serpentineâ album nominated for Album of the Year abroad. Add a sold out EP (Morbid Indiscretion) and debut CD (Hollow Dreams) which have both sold nearly 10, 000 copies and pushed Stigmata to the apex of the industry. One should also consider that the music industry in Sri Lanka is very fertile, where Sinhala is the main language and the English music market is less than 1% of the population.
Stigmata have been through it all, fighting every obstacle and never losing faith in their ability to be alluring, mesmerizing, shocking and controversial. From being the 'outlaws' of the Sri Lankan music industry - Stigmata have gradually spiraled upwards to become one of the most inventive artistes hailing from the Asian Continent. Having climbed every step of the way with resilience and self motivation, the Band quickly earned a reputation for its perseverance & innovativeness to their unparalleled live show. In the beginning there was no place for a band like Stigmata. Radio shunned 'Heavy Metal' and 'Extreme Music' as a cacophonic endeavor long dead in a scene nurturing pop, hip hop and alternative music. Stigmata proved to be the thorn in their eye...the proverbial light to flicker in their dark. Here was a band that would NOT take no for an answer, would never compromise their sound and style and NEVER give into the fickle music trends that spin in circles.
Stigmata know their strengths and have grasped early on that they share a powerful vision and a profound sound. Having built respectable brand value for its musical landscape and themselves â“ the Stigz know that they continue to perfect a style and sound that will soon see them & Asian Heavy Metal rise to unprecedented terrain.
But of course...this is the labyrinthine world of Stigmata where 'Innovation will never be compromised'...remember?
