Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
The forces of nature brought SubConscious & Thesis together. In 2001 they met for the first time at SubConscious’s workplace. Hip hop was playing over the speakers and they started conversing about how they both loved it. SubConscious learned from the conversation that Thesis rapped and was quite good at it. They randomly kept running into each other from then on in different parts of town. When they realized there was some reason they were being brought together, they decided to get together and chill. The second chill session Thesis’s friend brought over a Yamaha RS7000. SubConscious fell in love at first sight with this production studio. Having never done music before, SubConscious went out on a limb and bought one. Within 6 months they both realized the reason they were brought together. To make music. The chemistry with Thesis’s flow and SubConscious’s beats was unbelievable. From then on they got down whenever they could to make music. As soon as the public started hearing the music they were making, there was a wonderful response. Thesis was already known in the area and SubConscious was becoming known quickly for having a different style than anyone had ever heard before. They put out two demos together before the Demonstration record was finished in December 2003. Although they’ve only been together for less than 3 years, their chemistry and passion for what they’re doing has gotten them incredibly far. Since 2000 Thesis has been opening up for such artists as Obie Trice, D-12, Members of The Wu-Tang Clan, and The Dayton Family. He has won many freestyle battles including Western Michigan University’s Blaze Battle Competition, Grand Rapid’s Finest Freestyler II & III, and The Sprite Liquid Remix Tour. Thesis was also a finalist in The Source Unsigned Hype Tour freestyle Competition. SubConscious & Thesis also headlined The Grand Rapids Finest Freestyler Show which earned them a considerable amount of airplay on WSNX 104.5 of Grand Rapids. WSNX held a competition called “Do It or Screw It” which listeners call in and vote for their favorite of the two new songs being featured. SubConscious & Thesis’s song “Lockedown” was one of the new songs being played, and earned them two consecutive victories over The Nappy Roots and Eve 6. They were chosen to play at the Florida Music Festival Showcase in Downtown Orlando, headlining opening night at Icon, one of the biggest clubs in Orlando. They are currently recording brand new hits in a pro studio in Clermont, FL. They are ready for THE WORLD to hear the next level of Hip Hop they bring to the table.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
