Band/artist history
Calgary, Alberta, Canada a young, bustling city known globally for its annual Stampede, and daily oil riches, yet under recognized for its contribution to popular music. The scene here is difficult to say the least, most promising bands are crushed and dismantled in less time than it takes to make their first demo. Venues prohibit original sets, audiences revel in the songs of yesteryear, and yet amidst this bog there is a surviving rock band of six years, rehearsing in a basement in the citys North West for their upcoming tour. The band is STAREWELL and these rehearsals are not for Budweiser tour the band did last year or the Fully Extended tour, which saw the lead single Standing in the grey take the band to the Canadian National Songwriting finals. This tour is for the release of the bands third independent record entitled Those Who Matter a record that will fill store shelves, and most definitely rock the fans on April 3rd. This album is the one, remarks Brett the bands vocals and guitar man. This is the first album where think all the pieces are there, the songs, the production, the industry buzz, and the fans. Chris the resident bass player agrees, I am really looking forward to the next year knowing these ten songs are representing us, I think this album is our strongest effort to date. And strong it is. Nick Blagona the famed producer-engineer of Deep Purple, Kim Mitchell and The Tea Party was exactly what the band needed to put the icing on the ten sturdy rock tracks that make up Those Who Matter. From the raw rock n roll horsepower of the title track and Wrong way home, to the smooth radio feel of Burn the messenger and By Design, to the break neck speed of Under attack, this record packs serious wallop. The first single Blurrier has already started a buzz on Canadian radio and will most likely break the band given a few lucky bounces and some climbing chart numbers. A great new STAREWELL record is something the fans have anticipated for a while but what they really want to know is, when they can see their favorite band live? Well, we plan on touring all of Canada and hopefully the US comments Wade, the man behind the drums. We finally have an agency working with us and enough great originals to really make a show of it; I think the fans are really going to love our new live show. Yeah, and there will be much shredding and destroying, jokes Alex the bands new guitarist who signed-up just a month previous. Ok then, so a national tour and shredding are guaranteed so make sure you check out STAREWELL at the New Music West Festival this spring in Vancouver and keep an eye on the website for those cool gigs STAREWELL always manages to get themselves into. You will remember last year saw some choice pairings, as STAREWELL rocked alongside Nazareth, Starship, Kim Mitchell and Finger 11. Yes, these boys have come along way since being crowned Band Warz champs four years ago, and 2006 looks like another great year for STAREWELL. I don t know about all of you, but Ill be in my local HMV April 3rd at 9:00am and then in my car at 9:05am rocking out with Those Who Matter. Well that s just it, right?
