SpyrQ
September 28th 1987 born and raised out of Raleigh North Carolina Marcus Spears also known as SpyrQ the name is pronounced “Spy-Roll†the Q physically symbolizes the O and the L in the name. The inspiration for the moniker came from the popular video game Spyro, in which a dragon has to help others of his kind. The specific application of the concept is that SpyrQ is out to help “those who have been through what I have been through.†He is out to change life with the power of his lyrics, SpyrQ explains, standing by the idea that a negative situation can be transformed into positive.
That was just an intro, but what really started his hunger for music was his step brother trying to get him to freestyle one summer evening back in 1998. Later that year he started a group named X5.0 with James Alston also known as Machine, who he met on the school bus while attending elementary school. The next following year SpyrQ and Machine had their first talent show in Durham, North Carolina at the Apollo Theater which was a great success even though they did not win in the competition they both continued to strive for their dream.
A few years later while attending Middle School his 7th grade year SpyrQ met Khaaliq Williams also known as Baby Tren and added him to the group and decided to change the name of the group to Tha R.O.D.S (Ryding Off Tha Struggle). After years of doing shows and adding new members Iceburg and Tha Savage things began to get a little rocky for the group and for SpyrQ. With going through hardships with the group SpyrQ had came up with the idea that the group should break up and if anyone was to get a record deal that individual would help out the rest of the group everyone agreed and from that day forward no one really knew but that was the end of Tha R.O.D.S.
After the break up of the group SpyrQ had plans of having his own studio and running his own label. At the age of 16 that’s exactly what he did and formed Street Souljahz Entertainment. In the middle of September, 2004 SpyrQ met up with A-Ca$h founder of Two Tyme records through his cousin Kenny. After working with A-Ca$h for a while SpyrQ decided to add A-Ca$h to his roster and featured him on his promo “Firestrattah.†After releasing his promo CD SpyrQ continued working hard and perfecting his music later that year he released his first album “Feel My Pain Hear My Hunger†with not having a lot of success of selling his album SpyrQ didn’t give up he continued to do more talent shows at school, local open mikes at clubs and promoted his music more and more.
Besides his 2004 promo “Firestarttah†and his first album “Feel My Pain Hear My Hunger,†SpyrQ has released “Itz My Tyme 2 Shyne,†“Speak If You Want To Be Heard: Tha Poetry Segment†(a demonstration of his poetry skills), “A Menace II Tha Industry,†“A Menace II Tha Industry: Reloaded†and his newest “My Back Against Tha Wall.â€
