Spyder G
Like the FORD Company Garland... errr - Spyder G decided to "RETHINK" his market position and utilize all of his resources as a respected artist among his colleagues. "I wanted to take a year off after spending two years promoting 'Dimensions of Faith' (Nominated for Outstanding Christian Album Recording and Best Album Design PMA 2001), and not really "feelin'" the kinda success I was hopin' for ...you know”. “I didn't wanna blame anyone in my management or otherwise... I just got to that point as an indie where it seemed like I hit a brick wall, and nothin’ seemed to shake it”. “So I had to make some important decisions."
So that's what he did and out came this "New Vehicle" of bumpin' hip hop Anthems, caressing praise worthy Thug-loving rhymes, melded together by some good 'ole fashion Old school back beats. This his first single "Hip Hop Anthem" is said to be “the one to blow up off the charts like Pele on Steroids!” - SG
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
“On a personal level I think that this is the most honest work I’ve accomplished yet. I don’t wanna sound like I’m blowing my own whistle but I really think this will be quite successful! And to answer your next question yes I had to get into a totally different headspace for this album! It was a heck of a challenge! Not because of any “skill-set” reasons(laughs) “oh not at all”. I’ve always been articulating enough to translate exactly what I want to say to any jargon, which I’m addressing. It was a challenge because; and when listening to the album you’ll realize this I had to revisit many repressed and belligerent times experiences of my friends that significantly affected me and even some of my own parodies.” S.G
“It is my wish that my previous fans will listen to this album and recognise the reality check behind such vibes as: “Why did U”, “Can’t hide pretty”, and "Jail mate called Bubba". The new Spyder G Album "URBANISMS fo Rreaall..." is set to be available in stores May 2006.
The media has always been kind to Garland (now Spyder G) and very supportive of all his efforts as a progressive, forward thinking artist - The CBC, CFQC-TV (CTV) - Saskatoon, The Star Phoenix, The Gravelbourg Tribune, CFCR-FM (Saskatoon), and E-Clips Channel 7 (Regina). Check out the “REVIEWS” page! And he wishes to thank them publicly for all their support in the past.
This may be the first time you're hearing about this artist and if so, then you're in for a treat. The entire Spyder G crew salutes you for taking the time to give us a listen!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Right now I'm preparing a small tour of My Province fo the end of the Fall, and I'm finishin up the New Extended EP - Urbanisms fo Rreaall...
Your musical influences
Snoop, Dre, Westside Connection, Common
What equipment do you use?
Not into the Techno... as this question originally asks. But I used a ProTools Rig and some really kool tube similators to get that 'ol skool back beat feel.
Anything else?
Spyder G’s Previous Reviews
“ I recently attended the Prairie Music Awards dinner in Edmonton and in the process discovered a remarkable young Saskatchewan Singer in the process. Garland Headley (now Spyder G) sang during the Industry Awards Dinner and made quite and impression. Performing unaccompanied, he stepped up to the mike and soon had the crowd eating out of his hand. His rich warm voice, his brilliant sense of rhythm and his infectious smile won over this crown of industry insiders and made them forget the no-nonsense, official side of this event. People smiled, clapped and cheered to Headley’s energetic performance. It was truly refreshing. Bravo!”

“It was fresh, it was new, and it was exciting. Garland Headley’s (now Spyder G) performance at the Prairie Music Industry Awards gala started off on a traditional note with Headley singing a gospel tune in his clear, strong voice. Had it ended there, people would have been satisfied. But just when you thought you had the Saskatoon singer pegged as a devout member of the choir, he veered into a wild gospel rap segment, strutting with cockiness and urging the audience to clap along. It didn’t take much doing. People were whipped into a froth and blown away.”

When Garland approached the stage, we all waited then he started his song, without music! Just him, and his mic. I felt his mood, as I’m sure everyone else in that room did. A mood that only a professional at his craft such as Garland is could create. Taking us from a soulfully inspired song to “old-school beat-box” and rap, all in one smooth rhythmic progression. Garland made us feel his conviction, his truth and sincerity. To me that’s an artist!”

“At the Prairie Music Industry Awards held in Edmonton at the end of September, Garland Headley (now Spyder G), with only a microphone, walked out on stage and proceeded to enthral, entertain and emotionally stir an audience of several hundred music industry professionals. With the quiet of his opening song the audience went still and was transfixed until his slow, acapella gospel changed to a fast, pounding gospel-rap, and the room came alive at his performance, stomping and clapping, and swing along. One man and one microphone. Very Impressive, this Garland Headley
