Combining intelligence with real street knowledge, and relatable situations, the music that resonates is a uniquely personal disclosure unlike many artists claiming to be emcees. With crafty word play and a confident, yet casual disposition, Spoken Truth indeed is just that to audiences, truth. It’s undeniable the man raps like there’s no tomorrow. In light of this delightful fiasco best recognized as the music business, Spoken Truth’s constant balance of somewhat “underground” roots with just the right touch of mainstream elements, serves as a unique balance of two diametric worlds and the source of his distinctive sound.
On March 25, 2008 under Spoken Truth’s newly formed Independent label Speakin’ Real Music Group, and in conjunction with worldwide distributor CD Baby, Spoken Truth’s first solo LP Truth Be Told was released in stores. Immediately receiving favorable reviews, the album’s lead promotional single “The Beach” proved to be an instant favorite among fans and DJ’s as Spoken Truth personified his relationship and experiences with his hometown of Long Beach. To add more fuel to the popularity fire of “The Beach” which was proving to be a main factor in the success of the album, Spoken Truth and Pro Time Productions delivered to the world a unique visual experience by way of a full length music video.
Truth Be Told undoubtedly steals the show of any of Spoken Truth’s previous works. Over top notch production a flurry of relentless rhymes constructed of insightful, witty, and of course playerific verses make for the ingredients of a flamboyant, but overall genuine charismatic emcee.Band/artist history
Emerging from the thriving hip hop subculture epicenter of Long Beach, CA a new rising voice has begun to cause a stir among listeners and hip hop lovers everywhere in search for something more than the usual commercial latent lyrics that have been plaguing hip hop. The new voice that is blasting out of speakers everywhere belongs to none other than the newest sensation Spoken Truth. With a savvy attitude and overwhelming potential Spoken Truth has created his own brand of discerning reflective hip hop.
As the oldest child of three, Spoken Truth grew up in a home immersed in musical inspirations. His mother would play the likes of The Intruders, The Moments, The Temptations, Al Green, James Brown, and Marvin Gaye, igniting a musical spark. Entering elementary school Spoken Truth was introduced to what would be considered the founding elements of hip hop by way of older cousins. Influenced by his love for hip hop he began writing his own lyrics. Little did anyone know by way of NWA Spoken Truth was about to be introduced to a new form of defiant and defining hip hop. As a gift from his mother, the group’s groundbreaking album “Straight Outta Compton” would forever change the direction and development of Spoken Truth’s lyrics. This fact was abundantly clear as his lyrics quickly began to manifest into deeper forms of self expression in contrast to his previous works. It was at this time that Spoken Truth emerged. He was now fueled with an even bigger passion for hip hop, and a dream.
Graduating from high school the path of pursuing a music career was at the forefront with heavy determination leading the way. After overcoming what seemed to be countless obstacles, the immediate question still remained if Spoken Truth could handle himself on a mic. In 2005, with the completion of his first solo record The Spoken Truth: Words From The Soul the EP also serving as a demo, made it apparent Spoken Truth could hold his own with the best as it showcased the drive of an emerging and talented emcee. Taking a grassroots DIY approach to promoting and distributing the record, the music hit the streets at a record pace finding its way into the hands of accepting fans by any means; what followed next was a strong buzz and the beginning of a core following. In 2006, with the end of the year approaching Spoken Truth wasted no time returning to the studio and giving fans exactly what they wanted, more music. As anticipation grew to new heights the mix-tape Spoken Truth Presents: The Feel G.O.O.D. Movement finally began circulating around and only further proved the ever growing talents of Spoken Truth. Fans received a well constructed body of work that allowed and provided a vast opportunity for Spoken Truth to present himself in different lights with unlimited production as well as concept options that normally limit artists when recording traditional albums. Truth Be Told undoubtedly steals the show of any of Spoken Truth’s previous works. Over top notch production a flurry of relentless rhymes constructed of insightful, witty, and of course playerific verses make for the ingredients of a flamboyant, but overall genuine charismatic emcee. On the closing track of Truth Be Told, the smooth production of “Truth Be Told” gives insight into the makings of a complex artist. Spoken Truth rhymes, “Truth be told ain’t nobody messin’ with me, no matter scenario no matter the category, now you can look high and you can look low, still you come up short when compared to my flow, now who’s the fly one get’s the job done, nobody do it like ‘em and I just begun, no imitations I see the jealousy grow, they know I’m on point so truth be told, I stay on my grind like the finer things in life, to know the real me you got to see every side.” This track serves as the perfect summary of every aspect that makes Spoken Truth, and is further indication that amongst other artists he stands alone; at the same time it represents the obvious unknowns he has yet to rhyme. With this in mind, the tone is definitely set for a promising future.Have you performed in front of an audience?I have. I find them somewhat of a waste of time if your not already an established artist like mainstream or well respected with a decent following. All your going to do on the other hand if your neither of those two is waste your time. Either your going to end up playing for some BS showcase that just wants your money and to sell tickets and could careless about your aspirations and dreams or your going to go on stage and compete with other upcoming acts at a show that some promoter who only cares about money books you for. That's also a big waste of time because if you came with anything less than maybe 10 fans best believe their fans will show you no love, maybe a head nod if your lucky but other than that, what's the point. Maybe the real matter is I havent met the right promoter yet, holla at me.
Your musical influences
Some influnces of mines: Jay-Z, Kanye West, Common, Talib kweli, Mos Def, Blu, Evidence, Gangstarr, Wu-tang, Nas, Clipse, Cannibus, Planet Asia, Ghostface Killah...these are just a few I honestly could go on for days. What equipment do you use?

Lastly, I'm seeking serious management so serious inquiries only if interested.I like the way u spreadin ya message check out our songs and get at meyo dawg feelin that sh*** om a hip hop level i got u on that hot tip get at me let me no hot or flopyour good bro, your heading in the right direction with it, writing about sh*** that means somethin to ya, thats where any respect lies from me.
Gotta admit, though, your flow is repedative, but your breath control is good.
keep elevating.
Real recognises real!
By the way, the tracks on my soundclick currently are pretty old, but i'll be throwing some new ones on there pretty soon!
take care, keep writing and elevating!"will they" is definitely a tight concept. cats always have issues they gotta work out from within. i think you should put more into the chorus, maybe continue the same concept with the verses. if people don't listen to any of the lyrics they'll listen to the chorus to get an understanding of the song as a whole. "rhymes for thought" is hard fa sho. you came into that first verse full charge, but kinda slowed down toward the end, but you came back on with the second verse. that rhyme over the criminology beat was cool too.
anyway, peep my webpage. i'm just roolin' with instrumentals for now, but let me know what you think. peace out.All comments (10)
