Space Patrol Theater
Space Patrol Theater
I 1st started humming original music as a child and then started writing poetry. This soon turned into writing song lyrics. When I was 16 my hang out buddies, Monty Carrrol and David Heinz got a drum kit and a guitar and started jamming in Monty's guest house. I was a spacey kid and one day my friends said instead of just sitting around I should get a synthesizer. My 1st synthesizer was a cat/octave. When rumors started going around that I was a homosexual the band broke up before it began. This is when I started my 1st one man studio band and began writing music to my song lyrics. I would record on a tape recorder and then add additional tracks by ping ponging one track to another using multiple tape recorders. The results were very amatuerish but creative but this recording process resulted in poor quality recordings. Eventually I bought a 4 track recorder and started writing and recording on a regular basis. My goal was to be original and my inspirations were David Bowies Low and Heroes albums. I came up with the band name, Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl. Over the next ten years or so I wrote and recorded over 500 original songs but did not actively pursue promoting myself or starting a "real" band. In 1989 while working as Tigger and Fozzie Bear at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida I met Joe Webster and we formed a band called, Group Jupiter. We were a "studio" band and began writing/recording. Joe was a singer/songwriter/guitarist and soon his brother, Eric, who played Bass started Jamming with us. One day. Joe and I "discovered" that the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour album cover was in 3-D (using the red/blue 3-D glasses). The 3 of us started playing coffee houses in Orlando as Throcket Luther and soon went through Various Drummers until Matt Myers became the official drummer. I was not happy with the sound and direction Throcket Luther was going and left the band to start my own one man studio band called, Space Patrol Theater. I then met 2 very talented guitarists/singers/songwriters, Dan Preston and James Clark who were big Syd Barrett fans and we formed a band called, The Twilight Engine. We started playing clubs in Orlando but because of various reasons including drug and alcholol abuse this band dissolved and James soon died. Dan and I started a 2 man studio band called, The Collective Obsession. I ended up moving to Las Vegas and Dan continued to form various bands in Orlando. By this time I was recording using a digital 8 track recorder, a Roland JD 800 synthesizer and a Boss drum machine and continued writing /recording under the name Space Patrol Theater. I am currently writing and recording as a one man studio band in Las Vegas trying to find my place in the music world. I believe in ETERNITY and believe I am still an infant in my eternal life and have milliniums left to find my musical voice and audience.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
