OFFICIAL SOPRANO BIO - AS PART OF DEMO PACKAGE THAT I PUSHED LABOR DAY 2005 @ LABOR DAY CLASSIC (VIRGINIA ST VS NORFOLK ST @ NSU)
BIO OF SOPRANO
AKA THE YOUNGIN AKA BOBBY BOUCHER (THE WATERBOY)
Born Dwight Louis Mills, January 30, 1984 to Lynice and Dwight E. Mills in North Philadelphia, PA. Moved to Portsmouth, VA at age three. Went to Douglass Park Elementary School, Portsmouth,VA. After that, went to Hunt-Mapp Middle School, Portsmouth, VA. Graduated from I.C. Norcom High School, Portsmouth, VA in 2003. Currently a junior locking down Virginia State University, Petersburg, VA, majoring in Education (PLAN B in case rap don’t work, even though it will CONFIDENCE is everything). Been rapping since sixth grade; took rap seriously in ninth grade has been in hundreds of battles and ciphers, always wowing his audiences with his street-oriented bars, resulting in many wins but only a couple of losses (literally, not to toot his horn) Always puts Virginia in his rhymes has never written a song or freestyle without shouting out or describing Virginia one way or another. Left high school as “the illest to ever run through the halls of Norcom” no exaggeration. Signed a three-year recording contract to Napalm Entertainment, an independent rap/R&B label based in Norfolk, VA in 2002. (contract is now over) Currently unsigned, but heavily affiliated with Portsmouth-based label/production company Strait Jacket Entertainment. Has released FOUR Virginia State mixtapes with FORMER independent Smoothmatic Productions, based in Petersburg, VA one in October 2003 and one in April 2004 (freshman year), one in October 2004 and March 2005 (sophomore year); each one has had its success, selling in the thousands and Soprano has always been the featured artist, appearing on at least six songs on each mixtape. Is currently still doing work for Strait Jacket Entertainment and is looking for the opportunity to be signed to a major record company, preferably a distribution deal for his Strait Jacket Entertainment (as Nelly did for Fo’ Reel), for there are a lot of artists on deck (Rick Love, Chris Kane Rey Sosa [featured on CD], Moe Lew, Young X). Records his music at 420 Studios in Norfolk, VA. Wants to become the flagship artist for Strait Jacket Entertainment who will eventually put his people on when the time comes. Production is THE SECOND BIGGEST PART to Soprano’s success (his lyrical content and flow being the FIRST), as he is surrounded by two of the best underground producers in Virginia, Frank Dutch and Aim High (the Just Blaze and Kanye West to his Hova). When listening to a beat, he automatically feels the beat and then writes on spot, usually taking ten to twenty minutes to write a FULL SONG (with hooks and verses), IF NOT LESS THAN THAT. Records in one take (maybe two when high), always delivering to be FELT by his listeners. Can spit to ANYAND EVERY BEAT, but prefers soulful sampled-music (i.e. Kanye West, Just Blaze, Ghostface,) and percussion and horns (i.e. Bink!, Rich Harrison). Very diverse flow, can spit fast or slow or screwed, preferably likes to tell stories about his REAL life and REAL experiences (you will hear in the CD, it’s all real). Underrated chorus writer. DOES NOT EXAGGERATE OR FEELS HE HAS TO, FOR THOSE WHO EXAGGERATE AND MODIFY THEIR LIFE STORIES ARE EASILY TRANSPARENT! Does not talk about being a thug, gangster, mob affiliation, or anything of that nature; if he is surrounded by it or has seen it and/or lived it, you will hear it and believe it. Although he says “I sound like nobody but Soprano/and that’s why everybody and they mama fucks wit nobody but Soprano”, he has been lyrically compared to Jay-Z, Jadakiss, Royce Da 5’9, Common, Cassidy and Game. Favorite rap artists are anybody of Roc-A-Fella affiliation, Dip-Set, D-Block, Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Cassidy, Smitty, Scarface, Snoop Dogg, N.E.R.D., Clipse, Missy Elliot, and anybody reppin’ V-A. Main objective is to MAKE THERAPUTIC MUSIC FOR ONES THAT RELATE TO HIS SURROUNDINGS AND LIFE ETHICS (I make music for the people who relate to it/could give a fuck less about the ones that hate true shit/this ain’t true shit? You gotta be kiddin’ me/the youngin Soprano, 12 gauge shotty delivery.) ;wants to MAKE YOU FEEL THE MUSIC. Wants to make good music for both genders, for party people, for the conscious, for the confined, and last but not least, for the streets. Wants to position himself for all of his work to AT LEAST go platinum, as we all do, but feels like he has the production team and the talent to do so for real; he feels all he needs is a chance.
HOLDS DOWN, HAS HELD DOWN, AND WILL CONTINUE TO GRACEFULLY HOLD DOWN THE 757 FOR IT IS TIDEWATER THAT MADE SOPRANO!!!!!!! Last, but not least, he wants to position his family for better things to come (I gotta family to feed, and a state I gotta rep wit precision/I’ll bump heads wit any fucka, cause a deadly collision/long as in the end I’m able to put my mother and brother in a better position/then fuck it.) YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS AND THE WORST IS YET TO COME!!! SOPRANO AKA BOBBY BOUCHER IS HERE!
I have performed live on numerous occasions. I've done 6 talent shows, as well as shows for organizations on Virginia State University campus.
My influences are Jay-Z, Nas, Common, Talib Kweli, Styles, Sheek Louch, Jadakiss, and the late Biggie and B.I.G.
