Inspired by die-hard "bleeding heart liberal" hippie friends. They always know where they're coming from, and where they stand... I don't always agree with them, but am proud to be to be their friend! PRO RECORDING

Story behind the song

I started writing this song about a specific person but realized I have known several people who fit the description of the character. A musician friend even said the song could have been written about him :)
Stylistically, I wanted it to be in the vein of gritty Folk-Rock like Bob Dylan and the Band, or even The Pogues.

Lyrics

He'll be mad about Reagan for years to come
And he's still protesting the war in Vietnam
He ain't listened to much music since John Lennon
He's a man who knows where he's coming from

He's not too shy about what he smokes
And its no secret how he votes
He can quote you Bob Dylan till Kingdom Come
He's a man who knows where he's coming from

You can call him a liberal bleeding heart
He'll say a heart should bleed when it's alive
But there's always a flower in his gun
He's a man who knows where he's coming from

I don't always agree with his politics
He's like an old record that often skips
But I'm proud that he calls me a friend
'Cause he's a man who knows where he stands
Yes, Im proud as hell to be his friend
'Cause he's a man who knows where he stands
