SolarFlare are three-piece from England. They play melodic guitar based pop songs. The band have been together for just over a year and have just released their first EP- A tale of two cities. It is available at CDbaby.com
Band/artist history
SolarFlare were formed in 2006 after too much to drink in the pub. The band are really a song writing partnership between old mates Matt SolarFlare (that's me) and Martin Packer. Matt lives in Nottingham, England and Martin in Birmingham (also England).
Both Matt and Martin have been in and out of bands for years. Martin could regularly be seen in and around the pub's and clubs of Birmingham delighting the public with his melodic baselines. Matt was previously in the indie acid-pop band Antiseptic Beauty (or fondly known as The Septics). They had a EP released on German label Turntable Friend (there's loads of stuff about Turntable Friend in this link-

I became fed with the world of Indie Pop, and left the Septics. I went on to have a few unhappy encounters with bands in and around Nottingham (not going to name any names here, though one experience of playing in a covers band left me mentally ill and in need of a rest from music). At this point I decided to turn to dance music. Armed with a bit of basic equipment and ideas from a couple of Aphex Twin LP's I embarked on making dance music. I still like to put the odd bit of dance stuff together, though returned to the world of guitars and 'pop' music about two years ago.
I had a load of songs that had been knocking around for a while and I decided to put them all together. I had some basic kit to demo the songs on- guitars, a cheap keyboard and an 8 track studio on my home PC. It was fun recording some of the songs, though limiting with such a basic kit and it was lonely just writing for myself all the time.
Martin and I got together about 12 months ago to do the SolarFlare stuff. I sing and do all the guitars/ keyboards. Martin plays bass and sings. We were joined by our drummer (Nibbsey) and produced our first EP- a tale of two cities (see the music page for a listen). There are five tracks (though two are basically diffrent versions of the same track). They are pretty strong pop songs that should get you singing in the bath. Two tracks are written by me and two by Martin.
We are currently putting some material together for an album. I'll put out more news on this when I have it and the preview MP3s ofcourse!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We don't play live as much as we should, we are planning some more dates soon, but have been hard at work writing and recording.
