Solara is a 5-piece indie rock band from Pittsburgh, PA. Their music is emotional, complex, and unique.
Band/artist history
Solara's music is probably best known for its intensity, whether it is in the form of driving, dark rock or overwhelming, beautiful ballads. While it would be difficult to categorize their sound, since each song differs widely from the next, the band is consistently effective at capturing a mood or an idea in their songs and emotionally captivating their audience. Lyrically, Solara is set apart from most other bands in that they typically write from a third-person perspective. Most of their lyrics are actually stories or hypothetical situations. While this may seem impersonal, the stories are usually based on situations that the band can relate to, and they pull it off as if these stories were their own. Another trademark is Solara's tendency to break traditional song structures, surprising the listener with each transition. Solara's influences include Engine Down, Sigur Ros, Radiohead, and Deathcab for Cutie.
Solara began in Pittsburgh, PA, when Jeremy Shaw and Bo Bucklen, former members of Weatherfield, decided to join forces once again. But, rather than create simple, pop-punk, as they had previously done, they decided to create darker, more melodic, more emotional, and more complex music. They decided from the beginning to share the responsibility of writing the music and fronting the band. Soon, they realized they were on to something, and added bassist, Mike Lang, and drummer, Chris Moore. A 5-song demo was recorded by Ryan Creps between April and August of 2003. During the recording, Ryan helped out with guitars and keyboards, to give the band a fuller sound. It only seemed natural, then, that Ryan would join the band shortly after the recording. The band is currently booking several shows and becoming well-known in the Pittsburgh area. Solara is looking forward to returning to the studio, getting the demo professionally pressed, and touring.

We play as much as we can in Pittsburgh (usually 2 or 3 shows per month). We love playing live shows, meeting new bands, and getting feedback from the audience. One special moment that we had was a sold out show at Club Cafe in Pittsburgh, where we got a lot of good feedback.
