SoFine
Their attention-grabbing mix of a sultry-voiced soul singer and intense hard rock backups has gained SoFine a strong local following since they hit the Portland music scene in 2003. Self-described as 'heavy soul,' their tight grooves and original lyrics are at once softly poetic and unshakably hard-core.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Often compared to such notable soul and rock singers as Etta James, Genya Ravan and Lydia Pence, SoFine lead vocalist Shannon Fudge possesses the raw talent and energy that drive the band's inimitable live shows. Her rich, strong voice combined with her stunning good looks and laid-back attitude shine in even the most intimate venues where other bands flaws become apparent. Standing 5' 10' in flats and 6' 3'+ in heels, she can kick your ass as she croons you a lullaby.
Leading the backup grooves is Aaron Green on his '68 Gibson. A sensational talent, his powerful rhythms pulse and throb in the background until his complex stylings finally bust through in spectacular variety of solos that push the limits of the strings and give SoFine the edge that sets it apart. A show in his own right, his head is as shiny as his guitar.
Wailing on the bass guitar, Craig Beauchamp creates a beautiful noise that few other bass players can even dream of. At once broad and intricate, his style of play lends depth and texture to SoFine's music without ever overpowering listeners. Best of all, he has kick-ass hair.
The backbone of every great band is a great drummer, and Todd Mahan does not disappoint. Deftly finessing his way from hard, pounding beats to the most delicate, gentle pulses, his talent and energy are as undeniable as sleeping, eating, and sex combined.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Hell yeah we play live! There's nothing like the energy you get from a live audience--we are definitely a live show band. We play all over Portland and are planning a tour of the west half of the country. Watch out!
Your musical influences
Put simply, we're a Hard Rock band with a soulsy lead singer. It makes for a really cool sound that people seem to dig. We like to call it 'heavy soul'.
