People want to party. People want to get down and shake it. And what people want, Snake Drive delivers. They play the boogie blues, footstomp, hill country blues, juke joint music. Call it what you want, the pulse and the energy that Snake Drive dishes out is raw and relentless. No, this is not your uncle's blues band. This is completely different.
From the hill country of northern Mississippi to the hill country of southern Indiana, Snake Drive takes the living, breathing blues that RL Burnside and Junior Kimbrough played, a music born and raised in the juke joint, and gives it to you in the only way they know how: Jumping. Clapping. Dancing. Loud and fast. The walls shake when these guys play. The blues revolution is coming, my friends, and Snake Drive is fighting for you. This is one band out to prove that the blues is not dead.Band/artist history
Snake Drive is a four-piece band based in Bloomington, Indiana that has its roots in both North Mississippi Hill Country blues and indie rock. The band got its start when guitarist/lead singer Jeremy Sprague and bassist/singer Brian Petersen went on a pilgrimage to Mississippi to meet their idol, RL Burnside. After having met RL and touring and playing on the street in Mississippi, Petersen, who had a long history with indie bands in Indiana (L.U.V., Lessick's Kid, Black Olive), returned to Indiana and turned his attention more toward the blues, while Sprague returned to his then-home in South Carolina, and refined his style and technique as a disciple of Burnside's.
A year later in the summer of 2002, Sprague returned to his hometown of Bloomington, and he and Petersen formed what eventually became known as Snake Drive. Joined by Alex Puga (O2R Blues Band) on harmonica/vocals, the group was able to realize their vision of a hard-driving, raucous, foot-stomping blues band that was cast in their own unique mold.Have you performed in front of an audience? We play live in the Bloomington area, and throughout and around Indiana, from Chicago to Louisville.
