Small Town Workers
Small Town Workers is a rock n roll band from Charlottesville, VA. They formed in early 2000 and have centered themselves in central VA ever since. They released their first self-produced release in January of 2002. Blueprints (Demos 2000-01) is available online at www.cdbaby.com/cd/stw.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
In November of 1999, a mutual love of prog-rock brought together Mike Meadows (lead vocals/guitar) and Devin Malone (guitar/vocals), as cellists in James Madison University's Music Industry program. Geoff Sprung was an upright bassist in the Symphony with Meadows and Malone before joining the group in January of 2000. Whit Sellers, also a JMU student at the time, joined the trio on the drums to complete a band of original rock tunes. Sparked to the interest of the local music community and self motivation, the quartet began writing and performing their songs live.
As the group began playing regularly around Virginia and Washington, D.C., the energy of their live performance grew stronger. Jack Sass, morning rock DJ for 106.3 FM in Harrisonburg noted, "After seeing STW live for the first time, I wanted to kick my own ass for not seeing them sooner!" In January of 2002, STW released their first full-length recording, Blueprints (demos 2000-01). On Blueprints, the group combines its influences from the early rock pioneers of the 70's with its own modern musical tendencies. The Charlottesville Weekly comments, "STW funnel their blue collar energy into no-nonsense rock n' roll." As regional interest in the band grows, Small Town Workers continues to write, record, and perform their music with the same passion and roots that brought them together.
