SUBATOMIC MANIFESTO
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
This is part of a solo project. The pieces were composed in March 2003 and recorded in April-May 2003.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Live performances are more with the band INTENSITY! though I have done solo ambient improvisation to recorded backing tracks. Playing live is very enjoyable, a way to flex your ideas in a fresh environment. There have been many special moments with the band INTENSITY! improvising music scores to movies such as Nosferatu, The Golem. Metropolis, and The Cabinet of Dr Caligari.
Your musical influences
Although you won't hear it on these solo pieces, I am into great big proggy guitars and mellotrons, analog synths and hammond keys, stirring harmonies with the melody and vocal lines. Drawn toward both the harmonious and sometimes dissonant compositions of various English musicians, with attention to both their solo and band work: Bill Nelson (BeBop Deluxe), Robert Fripp (King Crimson), Steve Howe (Yes), and Steve Hackett (Genesis).
What equipment do you use?
Fender Strat (Sustainiac p/u, 2 lace sensors),GK-2 Roland p/u, Roland guitar synth, Alesis Air Synth, Zoom and Roland pedal FX, Ebow, Marshall for guitar path, and crown amp w/ full range 15" cabinets for synth path.
Anything else?
For the solo work, I moved away from fast beats and loud guitars. I want to explore the slowing down of tempo to the point just before the piece falls apart! I want to play with instrument arrangements, and let my regular music parts be an addition rather than a primary focus.
