Sidestreet Renys MEDICINE SHOW
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Reny has been writing poetry and performing since the mid 80's and playing fingerstyle guitar since about 93'. He have spent a good portion of his life traveling, living in Denmark and in Germany for a while during the later half of the 80's as a sponsored skateboarder and rap artist. Some of his early credits include remixes for among others Vanessa Williams (Vanessas' vibe mix/the Comfort Zone-rap) and Inner Circle [Bad Boys remix-rap], performing at festivals such as Roskilde Denmark, and opening for a Tribe Called Quest, Ice Cube and Gangstarr to mention a few.
Reny started teaching himself to play guitar In the early 90's and began exploring American roots and blues music. He was instantly captivated by the complex syncapations of delta and piedmont blues, and soon found himself singing & Writing almost exclusively in the early blues tradition, and to great contentment it would seem. But the fact of the matter is the love of music, all music, would eventually lead him and his neurotic muse to still more sources of inspiration, from bluegrass to jazz, latin and African music, back to blues finding links between them all at every turn. He was eventually inspired to blur the lines that seperated my tastes in the past and realize the dream of making a memorable musical and lyrical contribution.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I live to play in front of a crowd, we play as often as I can book gigs. We are about to start touring extensively this year in support of our new album , due for release in April.
