Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Neil Hodge joined on drums right away and we recorded three songs around Christmas of 2003 at a studio near Boston [Oxbow Studio]. Jim Beaulieu played bass at that session, but Greg Frechette was our regular bassist throughout 2004. The recordings from that session, and a few from our practice space, were released as an EP on Halloween 2004. Greg and Neil ended up moving for school. Erin La Ninfa came in on bass and Taiyo Johnston joined on drums. This line-up carried Short Wave through 2005, during which time we played shows Rhode Island and recorded a new EP, Burned Response (2005), in our home studio. During the summer we also began recording an album at Oxbow Studios in Massachusetts, this time on two-inch 24 track tape. The album was never finished, and by the end of the year the band had essentially dissolved when I moved to study at Columbia College Chicago. In 2006 Greg, Neil and myself rejoined to perform as Short Wave during our summer break. We also recorded an album over a three day span. At the end of the summer I moved to Columbia, Missouri on a whim. When the album was finally pressed [at which point I was living in Missouri], I retroactively re-named the band to Green Bean, which, at the time, seemed, to me, to reflect the new sound and line-up. This album, Corporate Appease, marked the end Short Wave and the beginning of Green Bean. - Andy
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We used to play at the Living Room often. .
Your musical influences
The groups I listen to most are The Breeders, Sonic Youth, Nirvana, R.E.M., the Pixies, the B-52's, Sleater-Kinney. Erin is really into the Breeders as well, but she's also a huge Elvis Costello nut. She also likes Pearl Jam, the Pixies, the Pumpkins, and Sonic Youth to name a few. Neil is a really big Bjork fan, as well as the Beatles, Miles Davis, the Roots, and Zero 7.
