oh jeez. it's 2009 and i started and wrote this in like 2003. i guess i should update this shit. 2009 remix remix yall!!!
Band/artist history
wrote my own lyrics over a crappy tape edit of the last couple bars in a track from a vanilla ice song at 9. something about bombs are coming down so grab your lady. hahaha. i wonder if there are any pictures of me in mc hammer pants. i was like a little paul barman. didn't listen to music during adolescence. thought cornershop and beck and fatboy slim and prodigy were the shiznit in highschool. got stoned for the first time in college and loveloveloved beatboxing and freestyling. downloaded fruity loops 3.56 and some really minimal version of cubase to make my own hiphop. a year later it turned into house or breaks then drum and bass now it is veering towards electronic music with 70s progressive rock sensibilities really crazy shit like banco del mutuo soccorso, yes, rundgren, steve hillage, triumvirat, eloy, gentle giant...
Have you performed in front of an audience?
i spun records for like two years in early 2000s. i could totally pick it up again on cd turntables but probably won't because i'm moving away from 4/4 electronic dance music. who knows. i'm also just starting learning to play bass guitar to do progged out funk astral jams. who knows where that'll go. i also want a midi controller to fuck with softsynths with my hands and a set of vdrums.
Your musical influences
fatboy slim: that guy was amazing to see dj live in his peak which truthfully i only saw on dvd. he's slowing down with age but his stage presence is unmatched. watching his music evolve into dance music retirement has been pretty wild too. matt sanborn, dj keenan, section 8 and exit from dc/baltimore respectively: these guys have so much energy. i honestly don't know how they keep everything together. both crews threw excellent parties month after month and on the turntables they know exactly what to do. the greening(sf): i couldn't explain the stuff they play but that isn't what's important here because if you aren't as into it as they are by the first song you're braindead. the last time i saw them the keyboardist smashed a key off and it went flying across the bar. girls grabbed for it like the wedding bouquet. they have lots of heart. AWESOME EDIT: i am now best friend with that keyboardist/lead for the greening. we're music brothers now and he introduced me to a couple other stoner buddhist vegetarian prog cats. dieselboy, dara and the rest of planet of the drums: i guess the small size of the dnb world keeps even the superstars grounded but these guys have the best attitudes out there. every show is worth it and every mix cd is better than the last. all the prog i listed at the end of the last question i'd lie if i didn't include jimi, yes once again because they are that good, camel, miles davis, amon duul ii, blackalicious, spooky, shadow, orbital, beck again, beastie boys... so much fantastic music.
What equipment do you use?
fl studio 6, 7, 8? soundforge and acid, goldwave, crappy laptop microphones, makeshiftly played standalone vst 8bit synths which i owe myself a midi controller for,
Anything else?
music can be pursued as far as you want i don't know how people are content to listen to angry, violent, violently sexual gangster rap when there is music out there where you can watch the entirety of life unfold in a positive, benevolent way while still being strong and triumphant. what we listen to is what we are and what we make is a reflection of ourselves.
