My name is Shawn Simonson. I am 19. I live in Carthage, Tx... ... And I'm back with a vengence!
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I have been playing piano since around the age of 9. I started writing my own music somewhere along the line, but heavy writing all the time around the age of 15. I have (and still do) played piano in some of the bands I have been in, which in one of them is where I picked up the inspiration to write solo material. I had never had a lesson in my life however until I was 18 (this past fall). That being said, you haven't heard my stuff since I've been in music classes in college and piano class in general so keep your eyes and ears open!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I have only recently started playing live. I play in my area at different events usually. I LOVE it! I live for playing live! I've only played a few times but a very very special moment for me was my Senior year in High School (2009). I was in choir and we had the most wonderful teacher that truly cared for the well-being, present, and future of her students. In our final concert of the year, all of the seniors got to have a special performance (like a solo or duet.) Well, MY performance was that I got the honor of introducing and opening the concert with my song "The Well-Coming". After I finished, I received the best standing ovation ever! I alllmost cried... Almost. So yeah, that was special. Especially considering the fact that my mom was still here to see it.
Your musical influences
My dad was the first. He always had me around his bands... Even if they were country, they still inspired me. Nobuo Uematsu came later. He is a self-taught composer that is just ABSOLUTLY AMAZING!!
What equipment do you use?
A Yamaha p-70 electronic piano and the free recording software Audacity.
Anything else?
I will be working long and hard on re-recording the old and recording the new the right way the first time starting yesterday! Thank you for listening to me or even taking the time to read this!
