We play a "new" metal which is basically a mix of different influences so our songs sound very different from each other while still keeping the aggessiveness... thing.
Band/artist history
How the band started... Back in may of 2003 two dudes (Dean and Angelo) met on the pooldeck of their condo and decided that they would start a band so they called upon the powers of the dark lord and he imbued a guitar that would bring the two dudes together as siamese twins that would totally rock the face of the planet. Together they formed a band called... SONIQ'S SYNERGY!!!!! (we changed the name, it was, erm, pretty lame)and they invited a drummer from the mouth of hell who could throw pork with her arms! Then a mongoose arrived and he said: "Call your band the alligator band." And we said "No!" and cut his head off. We had him for lunch. If you believed the preceding paragraph you are an idiot. This is how the band REALLY started... numbnuts...(scroll down) 2003 Back in may of 2003 Angelo and Dean met on the pool deck of their condominium building and Angelo, having a shitty ass one man band, needed a vocalist to help him work on a song that he had written a month before ("Hunter/Killer") so they teamed up and formed Soniq's Synergy (Later renamed Shards of Ice). Shortly after forming the band, Dean went on a hunt for more members. We needed a bassist, a rhythm guitarist, and a drummer. The band line up after that day was: Angelo (Lead guitar), Lex (Drums), Jonno Ross (Rhythm guitar), Elliott Clark (Bass guitar) and Dean (vocals). This line up didn't last very long because after 2 weeks Dean and Angelo realized that Jonno and Elliott weren't headbangers so they allowed them to quit due to differences in taste of music. Lex however was a metalhead and decided she'd tag along for the ride and good ol' Lex is still with us today. A few months later Dean decided he wanted a female vocalist so he invited Tesie Martinez to sing in the band. Angelo didn't think she would ever be able to sing in tune and kept asking Dean why he asked her to join the band. Dean replied "cuz she's hot". However, coming from a strict conservative family, heavy metal music was not negotiable so her mother told her to quit the band because Rock N Roll was the devil. Hurray for Angelo! Two months later Dean left for England and shortly after Dean's return from his annual trip to England, he discovered that Angelo recruited a rhythm guitarist for the band and Angelo discovered that Dean had taken up bass! Paolo Trinidad of Cataclysm was our guitarist for about one month and wrote a couple riffs which we never used (Probably cuz they sucked). He later swapped with fellow Cataclysm band member Adrian Mantes who was kicked out of the band by Angelo on November 14, 2003 for refusing to appear in the video. Plus Angelo didn't really like him. So here we stand now, a threesome with, breaking-the-record for the 21st century, most ex-band members and lowest budget good quality videos ($30 spent on both videos together). What's in store for the band now? Well like we say in the trade "Shit happens". I guess their hunt for a Rhythm guitarist will never end. 2004 The search, it seems has ended. We now have a rhythm guitarist: Griff Chatwin, a guitarist from the UK.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Schools, people's basements. Fun Fun fun.
Your musical influences
Angelo's lead licks and runs for Shards of Ice are influenced greatly by Paul Gilbert and Eric Johnson although he does write other songs for himself. Lex is influenced by alot of drummers so she likes to add all sorts of stuff to her drumlines. Hero: Stevo 32 Griff just plays Angelo's riffs but that'll change after this album. He worships Jimmy Page like a cow or something. Dean likes to use scalar runs and arpeggios for some of his basslines.
Anything else?
We like Pork and Space ships.
