I go by the name Shapeless and Ive been a Skratch Dj for about 5 years now. I was introduced to the whole Skratch/Battle movement back in 98' when my brother brought over to the house the 98' US DMC Finals video.. Ever since that point in my life I knew I wanted to learn how to kut, but just didnt have the turntables to actually learn.. In 99' I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and at that time I was 17 and eligible for the make a wish foundation.. So I wished to get 1200's and the 06 Vestax mixer.. So eventually I got the equipment and just practiced all the time, working on getting all these sounds out of my head... So primarily I just was doing mainly all kutting, then I watched the Bastard Language Tour DVD and was amazed by the music they were creating and in the past year I started to actually attempt at creating music from manipulations of sound on the tables... This has lead to my still learning of make beats and really get into the whole relm of producing and things of that nature.. Basically just making beats to kut over. Im still in the learning process, just experimenting and dont see myself stopping no matter how wack or dope or whatever people may think of my music.. Hopefully people like it, that would be great, but I just want to share some things ive created with whoever might be interested. Peace
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
No. Maybe one day I will gain the courage to do so but for now Im primarily just a bedroom dj..
Your musical influences
Dj Qbert, Ned Hoddings, D-styles, Bob Marley, Immortal Technique, Buddy Rich.... Im a fan of all genre's of music but more geared towards the Hip Hop/Skratch Music scenes.
What equipment do you use?
QFO, Technic 1200's and Vestax 05 pro mixer (soon to be the Rane mixer). Roland SP-808 and garageband (soon to be pro tools)
