Severance
Severance, a five-piece hard rock/hardcore band from Carlisle Pennsylvania, has been playing together since early 2003. This bands sound is greatly influenced from artists such as Atreyu, Thrice, Senses Fail, Beloved, and many more acts that are becoming more and more popular to people all over the world. Working everyday and continually looking for more shows, Severance is constantly promoting the spread of their music to people everywhere.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Before Severance was even an idea, Will, Scott, and Pat had been jamming together for a few months. Then they met Kyle and Alex. Kyle and Alex were doing some acoustic work with Alex playing guitar and Kyle singing. This is when they realized that they could combine their musical abilities and create something. Alex picked up his old bass that he had played for a few years before he played acoustic with Kyle. In May 2003, the band Severance was formed.
Severances’ first gig was a show put on by a local musician with a few local bands and bigger names from Maryland such as Lookingforward. This show went over well and got great feedback from the audience. They played many other shows in the area with known bands such as Giving Chase and Better off Dead. After these shows they decided to go record a 5 song demo at The Green Room in Harrisburg, PA. The guys were happy with this demo (although it was terrible) and decided that the band was worth serious commitment.
After some more shows and 3 brand new songs, Severance decided to go back and record these three new songs at a different studio (Seventh Wave Studio). The night before the band went in to record, Scott, rhythm guitarist, quit the band. A few weeks into recording they found a new guitarist, Mike Smith. He picked up the parts quickly and went in and recorded with the band. After a lot of time and money, the band finished their CD in January 2004. This CD got a great response from the audience and a lot of the people in Central PA. After the new CD came out, they started playing many shows including First Night Carlisle (New Years Eve) and shows in the area with Eden Park, Union Strike, River City Rebels, etc. In the future, Severance hopes to get signed so they can expand their music beyond the limits of central PA.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We play live all the time, right now mostly in central PA. We are working on more dates and a tour also.
Your musical influences
A lot of our influences come from much of the up and coming underground punk rock scene. It's growing bigger and bigger. A lot of screamo bands- Beloved, Atreyu, Thrice, Thursday, Taking Back Sunday, Finch, etc.
