Self-inflicteD
Chaotic melodies and deeply emotional ferocity intricately designed to both wrench your soul and shatter your eardrums. A musical revolution of style and structure, tearing down the invisible boundaries once firmly planted by critics to define genre and judge marketability, S-I bring true creativity and individuality back to the world in the form of "DetroitChaos."
Created as a means of emotional release, the S-I experience is calming and agitating, healing and enraging. The deeply personal lyrics and spine-tingling vocals of Steven Johnson, whose message can be identified with by anyone who has ever suffered any type of depression, frustration, or rage at the hands of society, combined with the primal drumming of Justin Cauble, the in-your-face rhythms of bassist Josh Gold, and the intricate power and artistry of guitarist Jason Tountas melds together beautifully as a truly memorable and life-altering experience. With such diverse influences as Fear Factory, Metallica, Skinny Puppy, Slayer, Sevendust, Tool, Pantera, Faith No More, Deftones, and countless others, the music of S-I will appeal to anyone who enjoys true talent and meaning in the emotionally devoid world of popular music. The raw energy produced on stage has resulted in S-I redefining the term "live show".
Detroit is the future of hardcore ... and Self-inflicteD is leading the way.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Formed in August 1996 in Detroit, Michigan
under the name: Death and the Mother.Became
Self-inflicteD after releasing a short EP
containing the band's first acclaimed hit:
Rashenail.Constant improvements in sound
and performance as well as an extremely busy
schedule of live shows has kept the band from
releasing their full-legth LP,but they have
relased a 3-song EP on the Black River
Recordings label out of Berkely, MI.The record
contains the definitive hit: Sacred (a favorite
among fans), John Holmes (a short parody
interlude), and Infection (quite possibly the most
intense song ever). The future is now.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We play live whenever we get the chance to. We have played all over the metro-Detroit area, including St. Andrews Hall, The Shelter, The 7th House, I-Rock, Rock-A-Billy's, Paychecks, The Magic Bag, The Wired Frog (unfortunately), and will soon be playing several gigs at Guitar Center, Record Time, and a local banquet hall (name not yet disclosed). Our favorites are the smaller places like Paychecks where we basically own the venue and can do whatever we want, and record stores like Rock-A-Billy's. We like to be as close to the fans as possible.
