Scarlet Whore

SCARLET WHORE, part of the BLOOD SYMPHONY RECORDS family, was formed in Feburary, 2004 by alumni of such St. Louis metal bands as Dark Illusion and Synaxis. The band's dark tones and heavy subject matter are reminicent of such 80's and 90's thrash bands as Anthrax and Overkill, while employing influences as diverse as progressive metal and funk. These elements are combined into an original sound rarely heard today. Their songs weave tales that are at times disturbing and at other times humorous. Tackling such subjects as revenge, drug abuse and dark magick, SCARLET WHORE has continued to remain true to their metal roots with an uncompromising attitude and a determination to be the best at what they do.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
The Mundane Truth: The Scarlet Whore Band Bio The band Scarlet Whore, in the truest sense of the word, was formed out of anger. Vassago had met Shadow through a mutual friend several months prior to the formation of the band, neither knowing that the other was involved in music. Vassago was bandless at the time, and Shadow had taken an extended leave from the music scene to concentrate on other pursuits. In November of 2003, Vassago contacted Shadow and asked him to play bass in his newly resurrected band, a hardcore outfit called BioMech. Shadow reluctantly agreed to "fill in until they could find someone else". Within a very short amount of time, the duo quickly realized that BioMech was going nowehere fast. Shadow, irritated at the other band members lack of focus and dedication, offered to take Vassago with him as he departed. The vocalist agreed, and the search was on to fill out the roster of what was to be Scarlet Whore. Their search quickly led them to find Beast, a former DJ turned metal drummer. After going through a varitable revolving door of guitarists, the fledgling group placed an ad on the internet for a guitarist. The ad was answered by the man who would become Sin, and the lineup was complete. Originally formed as a metal cover band, Scarlet Whore quickly developed a style reminiscent of late 80's/early 90's thrash bands such as Overkill and Laaz Rokkit, as well as Bay Area bands like Metallica and Exodus. In June of 2004, the band recorded their debut LP, "Ride The Great Beast", (Brethren of War Records). After they finished recording, the need for a second guitarist was underscored, so the band quickly added rhythm guitarist Diablo to the lineup. A further search to perfect their sound led them to recruit a second lead guitar player, called Misery, in late 2004. In December of 2004, Scarlet Whore parted ways with Brethren of War Records to form Blood Symphony Records, and continue to release their work on the new label. In early 2005, citing "creative differences", Vassago, Diablo and Beast left the band. Shortly thereafter, Misery filled the vocal slot. Within a couple of weeks, an ad on the internet yielded veteren drummer Vlad, and the lineup of Scarlet Whore was once again filled. Scarlet Whore has returned to playing local and regional venues in and around St. Louis. MO, and is now planning to release their second LP, tentatively titled "Rise Up", in Summer of 2005.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We are all about playing live! We love being as hardcore and brutal as we can on stage and seeing peoples reactions, also seeing the whoremongers tear up the pits is fucking awesome! But we love being able to talking to our fans, too.
