Formed in mid-2001, it only took a couple of months and a few rehearsals for frontman, songwriter and vocalist Konrad Pulé and co. to decide and eventually record their first two demo-tracks. Produced by well-respected David Vella (Rammstein, Phillip Boa & The Voodooclub, Such A Surge, etc.), the end result was very encouraging to the extent that their first track “Time To Know” topped the Maltese radio charts (these charts are based on listeners’ requests and radio airplay, and reflect the charts of other countries like UK, Italy and the US), even though nobody knew who Scar were (or what they looked like!) eventually, it took a phone call by the band during a live chart show to cement their credentials to an unsuspecting and puzzled DJ and his listeners. More was to come Scar’s way when “Time To Know” was given top billing on a show featuring unsigned bands by the Italian state radio station RAI Stereo Uno. Mind you, the song might have stolen the hearts of the Italian public thanks to their addictive brand of melody-laden Pop-Rock, but their attempts at speaking the language whilst being interviewed amusingly did not!
Scar’s second track on that very same demo "Calling Out" had an even better response, remaining on local radio charts for over twelve weeks whilst also being playlisted on American radio station Radio Voyager for over three months. Following the success garnered by these two tracks, Scar followed up with a third track called "Red Carpet" in August 2002, whilst at a gig held at the Hard Rock Café (Malta), a VIP table of around fifteen people including 70’s pop sensation Leo Sayer and Irish singer Johnny Logan stomped madly, dancing on their table together with a full house losing it to Scar’s infectious sound.
This was the start of Scar’s reputation for their outstanding live performances, earning the band a lot of respect and establishing them firmly in the local scene. This led them to obtaining main slots at major festivals on the Maltese isles, including the Heineken Tribu Music Festival, the Urban Jungle Music Festival, the Gozo Music Festival, the Maltese Fashion Awards and the Carlsberg Masterclass Festival featuring Faithless as the headlining act amongst others. With very positive feedback and reviews from the media together with various TV and radio appearances, Scar gave over forty live performances in that year covering most pubs and clubs and enjoying a good and constant response from the crowd whilst gathering more admirers. Scar were also featured on various promotional gigs and tours backed by brands such as Lucky Strike and Budweiser the band admit that the main highlight at these dos was being pampered by the gorgeous official hostesseswell, you would be a fool not to admit that, would you?
The music that Scar generates has a gritty mainstream approach intertwined with catchy choruses, giving them a versatile and original approach. Lyrics-wise, the songs deal with various issues such as the persistent debris surrounding obsessive relationships and the doubts that follow suit, frustration and anger created by persistent abuse, to other positive issues like the world being beautiful enough to be dealt with and appreciated rather than criticisedan upbeat approach in a world clouded by doubt, extreme consumerism, and the institutionalised, desensitised fodder spewing out of our TVs (“Fame Academy” and “Big Brother”, anyone?)
Last May saw Scar release their latest demo-track. This time, "Fences" topped the charts of Malta’s largest music radio station Bay Radio and has been there for over eight weeks, whilst grabbing the attention of an Italian artist who came to Malta to record an Italian version of it. This will be included in his forthcoming album.
Scar surprised the public when they launched their debut CD album with a live performance on a pavement in front of the biggest music store in Malta. Their eponymous debut features thirteen original tracks and so far, the feedback from the media has been very encouraging:

Malta’s diminutive size and equally small population of 390,000 limits its rich roster of bands and their future possibilities. Scar’s case is no exception, but the material which the band have just released has an aura of confidence brimming with energy and commitment that can see them go places much more further than their present confines, namely in the UK and most particularly the US market. It will only be a short time before the outside world will eventually be seduced by Scar’s music, and rest assured that you will be next after listening to them!
