Formed as a response to sheer boredom, the experimental-comedy duo R.O.Y. were originally in no way serious about this project. However, following a platinum album (The Tyna Turner Overload), a splendiforous tour of North America, and a triple law suit, it is clear their intentions have changed. The two sole members, Sonic McFlurry and the Nose, have been given the "Hyperactive Ten" and cited as "musical and comedic masterminds, the voices of a new, jackass generation...simply amazing!" After a long hiatus following various financial problems with R.O.Y.'s own record label, While My Walrus Gently Weeps Records, R.O.Y. has returned to finish their long awaited sophmore effort, Plaster Lincolns and the Lauren Effect. Soon after we will be putting together the highly anticipated boxset, R.O.Y.:The First Four Years! The set will include both of the first two albums including altenate versions of songs, outtakes, interviews, and Rarities. The set will also include the songs R.O.Y. released under the Bleedin Gums banner. (During a stay in Britain R.O.Y. played daily at both the Bexley Heath and Brinsley Schwartz Pubs. They performed under the title "The Bleedin Gums", with both band members adopting the name Mick Jones. During this stay they also record an EP, "Foreigner Sucks", as the Bleedin Gums at the legendary Wabbley Road Studios.Band/artist history
Sonic McFlurry and the Nose met one day in Jew world, where they and another kid expressed a great dislike for an anal-retentive homosexual (not that we have a problem with that.) The two soon realized they had an odd talent for writing parodies to songs and, to a lesser degree, cheating at Tony Hawk's Underground. One day, after about 3 years, they decided to jam and the first instance of "Metal Mariachi" was born. That day music history was made. The world will never be the same. (It will always be slightly crappier.) Weeks later they tried to recreate the magnificent jam and record it at their vary own Castrated Horse Stuidos, failing seven times before creating one version that will always be second only to the original. The duo next recorded a pair of singles. First their hit folk-rock song "What Did I Do Last Night" w/b-side "Metal Mariachi" and "Intercourse" w/b-side "Yoko's Revenge." The band then moved recording to Pig Rectum Studios, where they succesfully recorded the "Welcome to the Gulf of Mexico" EP and their debut album, "The Tina Turner Overload." After taking a short break to tour, promote the album, and record an EP in Britain, R.O.Y. returned to record "Plaster Lincolns and the Lauren Effect." However, prior to completing the album, R.O.Y.(and more accurately, WMWGW records) faced financial troubles and were forced to go on hiatus for some time. R.O.Y. have recently returned to finish the recording of their album and put together a boxset, both due out in by the summer.Have you performed in front of an audience?Following the release of our first album, R.O.Y. toured North America. However, regularly we play at Jojo's Appartment Square Bar, Hippopotamus Inc., Ragga Rob's Rastafarian Rocker, and our very own The Poision Monkey Room.
Your musical influences
Frank Zappa (He's essentially R.O.Y. with a bigger budget), NOFX, Weird Al, and all other satirical and sarcastic comedy/rock.What equipment do you use?
R.O.Y. will often start a song trying to make one kind of song and finish making a completely different one. The band enjoys using a variety of Gibson and Ibanez guitars, as well as any form of keyboard they can get their hands on (ranging from toy keytar to synthesizer to pipe organ.) Along with this R.O.Y. use a variety of less important instruments and household items. For instance, on "Acid Banana" Sonic McFlurry plays the Star Trek laser gun and the punching bag inflation device.
