Rough Draft
The man behind the funk, soul and jazz tinged soundscapes used by Soundclick artists Dre' Rock and Yung Cypher, has stepped out of the shadows with his own Soundclick webpage!
Check back often for new joints by one of hip-hop's best kept secrets, Rough Draft!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I've participated in several beat battles since I've lived in New York City. The Nuyorican Poets Cafe, CBGB's Gallery, and The Five Spot Lounge are
a few of the clubs I've battled in. Battles are cool because you can network with other producers, and if a competitor is really dope, you can try to study his techniques. I use battles
to learn different ways to freak beats, and how to entertain a crowd.
Your musical influences
Jazmarc, Moe Texx, Robie Mann and Jeff Black [four producers from Cleveland, Ohio who I consider my mentors to this very day]. Quincy Jones,Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, and Roy Ayers are major influences in my sound, also.
What equipment do you use?
I use what I can get my hands on...literally.
Sampler, sound module, computer, analog synth, live instruments...whatever.
Anything else?
If my sound moves you in some way, then it's done it's job. I hope you enjoy what you hear. This Summer is going to be bananas! I have alot of projects lined up that I'll keep you updated on. Last but not least, pick up a copy of Rough Draft-"The Sessions Compilation".
