Band/artist history
The two souls / brains behind Ror-Shak come from very different musical backgrounds:
DB, a professional DJ for more than 20 years has never made music before; he has always had ears to find it though. Starting as A&R consultant for Profile records in the early 90s, DB put together the first Techno and Jungle compilations in America. At Profile he went on to sign projects from Norman Cook (AKA Fatboy Slim) to 2 Bad Mice before finally releasing Jason Nevins vs.Run DMC’s "Its Like That" which sold 4 million records. He was given his own imprint at Warner Bros. prior to his short run as head of A&R for the U.S. version of Ministry Of Sound, where he signed Fischerspooner. DB has released 11 DJ mix CDs over a ten year period and owns and is one of the two of the creative forces behind Breakbeat Science, the production company and label giving birth to Ror-Shak.
DJ Stakka started as a DJ in 1989 and added production to his resume in 1991. He is a legend in the Drum and Bass underground, producing literally hundreds of records, many becoming club anthems. His discography includes various UK white labels from 19911994 and numerous releases on Ram Records, the #1 Drum and Bass label in the world. Stakka was co-owner of Underfire and Audio Blueprint from 1997-2002 and now runs his own label, Cargo Industries. Remix highlights include Morcheeba's "The Sea" & Africa Bambaataa’s "Planet Rock". Both DB and Stakka are from the U.K & currently live in Brooklyn, NY.
Deep is the title of their first album project together. The style of the album, you ask? Not easily to be compared with anything else: broken beats, downtempo, soulful chill, electronic, elegant or cool jazz? Decide for out yourself. Like the group’s namesake, the album elicits interpretive responses.
Deep is a very well-balanced piece of music containing lots of airy and melancholic vocals. Guest vocalists appearing on the CD are Julee Cruise, Lisa Shaw, Wendy Starland, Mark Holmes and Morningwood’s Chantal Claret. Julee became world famous with the song “Falling”, the title track on David Lynch’s Twin Peaks which is still to date the best selling TV soundtrack in history. Lisa, who Madonna declared “so cool” in Rolling Stone Magazine, is nearly ubiquitous in the dance music scene as a "house diva" owner of an anonymous voice that soars above crowded dance floors at 3AM.Your musical influences
