Acoustic General

I'm now working solo after many many years in bands.
Band/artist history
Retired from bands on 31 December 2003. Started in the 70's playing on the folk scene in London. Came back to Dundee and continued playing contemporary folk/country crossover with a band called Jude for a few years. Then took a job playing bass in a club band which did covers. Many bands, trios and duos and years later I had to get out of that scene. I had been desperate to get back to do what I do best which is writing, producing and performing music I like - and pubs, clubs and functions are the last places which would appreciate what I like !
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Just retired from band work. It became boring playing clubs and functions. Doing solo acoustic gigs now which I like much better and also working hard on my own material.
Your musical influences
I love creating my songs from an acoustic guitar backdrop with emphasis on good vocals, melody and lyrics which say something. Arrangement and production are also important to me. Through the years I've been influenced by singer/writers such as Gerry Rafferty, James Taylor, Jackson Browne and Dan Fogelberg. Down the years it started with bands like Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Orleans and The Eagles. In more recent times Crowded House, Counting Crows, Steve Earle and Tom Petty are right up at the top of my list.
What equipment do you use?
For anyone that is intersted. I use a Yamaha Compass Series Acoustic Guitar, California (Red)Series Strat, Technics Keyboard and Fostex VF08 digital recorder. Just ordered Logic sofware, new soundcard, effects unit etc to begin the learning curve of PC composing.
Anything else?
My album Americelt Union will be released Wednesday 4 May 2005. It was produced by John Wooler, 26 grammy nominations and 5 time winner The project features classic tracks written by top singer songwriters such as John Martyn, Roy Orbison, Van Morrison, Rod Stewart and Nick Drake plus a couple of of my own. I had great players on the album including David Immergluck of Counting Crowes, Steve Hodges from Tom Waits Band. Also had Eric Rigler who did all the pipe playing for Braveheart on a few tracks.
