The Ron Howington Band is made up of hard working experienced musicians who play what they love and love to play. This original music is as honest as the bands working class roots. Ron Howingtons two Cds "From the Cradle to the Grave" and "Michigan Winter" are soulfully eclectic. Folk,Blues,Rock,Jazz and country influences are evident. Straght forward rythums combine with smooth flowing lyrics to create an original yet somehow familiar sound.
Ron Howington Then and Now
Born Sept 2nd, 1962 in McAurther, W VA (in a log cabin on Mabscott Hill). He was less than a year old when his family moved to Michigan. Ron's late father was a country musician, who taught Ron his first chords when he was a small child.
Ron worked in these bands more than once: All Wheel Drive, Slap the Cat, The Drive, RW and The Drive. A Band of Mind. The Players 4, Oklahoma , The Returnables, The Mustangs and others. But even if you haven't seen these bands, you may have seen Ron as a "hired gun" A fellow musician once said "Man, how does he get all this work? I walk into a club, and no matter what the name is on the Marquee, Ron's in the band."
A multi-talented musician, Ron plays guitar, bass, drums and piano. This, in addition to his vocal talents and songwriting ability, make him the man to call in the Metro Detroit area when you need a band, hired gun, or studio musician. Hosting jam nights for 15 years in North Oakland County, MI, has honed Ron's musical prowess and stage presence.
Ron has gone from one house gig to the next over the last 10 years. He has been at his current club "The Springfield Inn" for over 3 1/2 years now.
We play at the Springfield Inn every friday and saturday night. We are the house band and have been there over 3 1/2 years with no end in site.
