ROBINSONG: Parodies and pop tunes of a somewhat flighty natureBand/artist history
I started out writing parodies of show tunes to amuse my family. Over time it led to a broadcasting career that would include producing musical comedy for national radio shows. Though serious songwriting is my primary hobby, I also create parodies to celebrate my longstanding friendship with another songwriter/producer, RZ. Some of these birthday tributes are the focus here.Have you performed in front of an audience? The few times I've played live (keyboards and vocals in a couple of bands) were rewarding but I find studio multitracking much more satisfying because I have complete control over every note. (Well, sometimes.)
Your musical influences
The Beatles, James Taylor, Sting, Lerner & Loewe, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Steven Curtis Chapman, Phil Keaggy, Mel Brooks and Don Agrati have all been influences. Carly Simon had it going on too. What equipment do you use?
Roland, Yamaha, Korg and Akai recording gear and keyboards. Gibson, Fender, PRS and Alvarez guitars. For tweaking the final tracks I transfer everything to Cool Edit Pro.Anything else?
