Robert Voetes
progressive alternative turning a new style for the acoustic sound robert voetes has a distinct guitar sound unlike anything before
I heard an old Beatles Tune “Get Back” on the radio one night and the song stuck in my head for days. When I sat down to write a new song one day I realized that I had been influenced by that song so I decided to go with the flow so to speak.

IN AN Ever Evolving progressive sound Robert Voetes mixes moody progression with a hint of Jazz. A solo project originally but now Tom Murphy former "Rousseau's Brush" band member joins Robert Voetes making this a team.
It has been a long time coming for the release of Robert's first album. First there was "Rousseau's Brush" (a combination of artistic and perhaps dark alternative music) that featured Robert on vocals and guitar. A four man band from Denver Colorado "RB" played the Denver scene for nearly two years. "RB" had their songs played on such radio stations as "KTCL", "KBCO", and the now extinct "Peak". As the band was wrapping up the recording of their first album artistic differences were tearing them apart and soon the recordings were left in the studio unmixed and unmastered, never to be heard. "The break up was hard for me, it was a dream of mine to release and album of some sort. Especially after all we had been through as a band and as a team for two years." A few months later Robert began writing new songs with Thomas Murphy ex drummer of "RB". "I would write the music and lyrics and Tom played drums. It was working great, we recorded a song called "Orange Case Song" first on my four track, then we decided it was studio worthy so we went into the studio where we had recorded before with "RB". The song was a defining moment for me musically, I had grown as a songwriter and this song was my confirmation." "Orange Case" is packed with a moody atmosphere supported by lyrics of breaking up, and holding regrets. For some reason things did not last long after that studio session, Robert decided to go to college and Tom moved to Chicago. About a year later (late 1998) Robert teams up with ex "RB" member Aron Beatty and Steve Cleveland. "We had a few practice sessions, and recorded a Cure song "Lullaby" which turned out rather well and if nothing else the times spent with Aron and Steve reminded me why I love playing music." Yet again the trio was a short but sweet affair, and Robert was again writing songs alone. Aron and Steve released a recording about a year later with the band name of "Seven Time Lie". During the holidays of 2002 Aron, Tom, and Robert enjoyed a reunion of sorts when Tom flew back from Chicago to meet up with Robert and Aron. The three hadn’t seen each other for years. "My friend Aron has been like a mentor to me for years, and Tom has always had a way of motivating me, so it was a significant event meeting up with those two at that time in my life." Aron had his music project going under the name "Invisible Asps" and was also doing re-mixes for other well known bands locally and internationally. Inspiration would soon bite Robert and almost immediately he began to construct his home recording studio. Early 2003 the first few songs for "ReSend" are created and Robert begins to find his sound. "I have a mellower sound but it is very creative and very melodic." "ReSend" has a beautiful guitar riff that guides the beginning nicely with acoustic rhythms and a witty vocal track. "The song is a bit untraditional in the fact that is really has no chorus." It ends with a haunting guitar solo that fades away but sticks in your head. The next track to follow is "In Your Past" which again has a nice guitar intro that leads into a very melodic yet simple tune. "So far this has been my most popular, it’s an honest song both musically and lyrically and I think people can relate to it in their own way." "Another Day" is in the third spot and this song features Robert on the keys, it is an interesting arrangement that has a bit of a classical feel to it. "The lyrics describe an individual who wishes to break the daily life cycle of his existence but never makes that the first step to." "On E" is a short but clever little tune and is fourth on the CD. "I needed something a bit upbeat and something that is kind of fun to break up the mood a bit." "With Gravity" is fifth and it has an emotional guitar riff that leads into an edgy chorus. "This song is a reflection of an earlier "RB" song called "Iron". The only difference is "With Gravity" is shorter and moves along where "Iron" was repetitive and too long, it was always fun to play though." Number six is "The Still Pretender" the song fits the album pretty well, it has characteristics of the first few songs but with it’s own gutsy guitar solo that happens twice in the song, once alone and the second time with chorus vocals. Seven is "Document’s of Denial" which was the first song Robert finished for the CD and it has similarities to the old "RB" sound. "As I experimented with new equipment and with new software I began to move away from my old ways and I found a sound that I was comfortable with. I left Doc’s on the album because it reminds me of my roots." The last song is "In Your Past" again, but this version is a remix by Aron Beatty of "Invisible Asps" ex band mate from "RB". ReSend has a nice collection of songs and flows very well. Robert Voetes is ahead of his time in his sound, with melodic tunes supported by a signature clean guitar sound and mellow to rough vocal range this CD is a must have.
Not playing out currently, but may put together a small tour of just a hand full of states (CO, NM, MO, GA, and FL) summer of 05.
