River City Slim and The Zydeco Hogs

In Louisiana in the early 1950’s, traditional Cajun and Creole music collided with the rocking Rhythm and Blues sounds that were sweeping the country, and a new style of music emerged. It was christened Zydeco, from a song popularized by Zydeco pioneer Clifton Chenier. River City Slim & The Zydeco Hogs bring the exuberant sounds of the steamy bayous of southwestern Louisiana to the hills of New England. The Zydeco Hogs cook up a spicy musical gumbo that combines the traditional sounds of the button accordion and washboard with a driving, syncopated beat.

"When The Zydeco Hogs play the air is filled with the spirit of Louisiana French music. You feel the ragged joy of Cajun two-steps and Zydeco blues. You can almost smell the garlic and the stewing oysters, the humidity rises a few points and suddenly this isn't Connecticut anymore." -- Ed McKeon, New Britain (CT) Herald “River City Slim & The Zydeco Hogs perform the spirited blend of Cajun, Creole, and rhythm & blues music that is Zydeco. People come from all over New England for the soulful, pulsating, uplifting music “ -- Brenda Milley, Arlington (MA) Advocate “Their tight instrumentation, impressive vocals and harmonies, and excellent interpretations of traditional material clearly make them one of the premier non-Louisiana based Zydeco bands.” -- K-Paule, ZydecoRoad.com “Phenomenal. Rich in tradition. Deep in roots exploration. Ripe with intensity.” -- Bruce Handelman, Rochester (NY) Zydeco/Cajun Network
