Band/artist history
I'm actually going to type out the whole thing: The bands roots can be traced back to a project with Rob and ex-member Harley Ludwig called "Lunch Meat". Rob played guitar and harley did drums/vocals. Various other members, including Matt Lester and Harley's cousin (both on guitar) were experimented with, but nothing really came of it. Many songs were written in styles ranging from grunge to metal to blues, but the tunes were juvenile at best, poor recording equipment didnt make things any easier. Something had to happen if the band was to progress. Luckily, over the summer Rob met up with drummer Chris Woodruff, who quickly proved himself Harley's better, with fast feet and a rapidly developing style all his own. They wrote a few songs together ("Fuck", "Grunge Song", "For Whom The Bell Tolls (Cover)") and gradually brought harley into the picture, now as a full time vocalist rather then a drummer. Gunther Martin was also added on bass. The band name was changed to Screaming Revenge, stealing it from another band Chris was disatisfied with. However, this too could not last long. Gunther began to come to fewer and fewer practices, and Harleys looming drug addictions began to interfere with productivity. After a while, everything came to a complete halt. Unofficially, but official in the sense that they never returned, Gunther and Harley were out of the band. It was at this point of despair, that arguably, some of the group's definitive work began to be composed. The band name was changed again, this time to "The Blistering End". And now, with just Rob and Chris, songs began to come out faster than they could record them. Songs like "Black Clouds" and "Engulf In Bullets", "Cardiac Insecticide" and the now defunct "The Quality Of Mercy Has Been Strained" came to be. Midway in all this composition, guitarist Andy Abdale was brought into the group, allowing for a whole new amalgam of guitar harmonies and layering. Unfortunately, Andy's guitar playing and practice attendance did not see eye to eye with the ideals Chris and Rob held. Andy was kicked out of the band, and moved to another project with chris entitled "Mysterium", which is still going today. This did not faze Chris and Rob however, in fact it almost fueled their songwriting fervor even more. A five song demo was created (with the help of a recently purchased eight track), and passed out around school. The tracks on that demo are the ones you see featured on this site. Listeners particularly liked the asskicking "Black Clouds", and despite few listeners, those who heard it were pleased with what they heard. A teacher commented "The music is different, intelliigent almost. Even without vocals the music speaks." clearly setting Chris and Rob apart from other bands at the time. However they both knew with only guitar and drums, they would not get very far. This incited the addition of current members Tony (Bass) and Josh (Guitars). At first things seemed to work out well, everyone learning "Black Clouds" quickly and working on other songs. But soon interest fizzled, and Chris and Rob were back to themselves again. After a few name changes (time, etc), the band almost completely shut down for a while. Chris was occupied with shows with "Mysterium" and Rob messed around with a joke project "Meat Puppet" with Harley, bassist Mark Mazzoni, and drummer Adam Taber. However Chris grew bored with Mysterium and Rob knew Meat Puppet wasnt going to get further then the elementary school they played outside late at night. Chris and Rob tried once more, the band name changed to its current "Rise To Attack". With Josh's discovery of the vocal talent of screaming, the band took on a whole new spin. Tony came back on bass, and finally the band seemed whole. Covers of "Five Year Winter" by Zao could be heard from the depths of the basement, dripping with energy. Even then, there had to be another turning point. Chris noticed Rob's fading interest in the band and confronted him about it, and it was decided that Rob did not want to continue playing in any musical endeavor for an extended period of time, citing personal reasons, none of which had anything to do with members of the band. Still wishing the band success, Rob agreed to do all recording and mixing/mastering with the band, working with a laptop rather then the unstable eight-track. However, that didn't really work out well, and Rob missed his work with the band, so he rejoined after about a month or so. Things started to pick up after this, two original songs were completed ("Religion For The Rich" and "A Knife In Liquid Form") and three shows were performed (Decker Stage, Tony's Basement, Chris' Basement). For a few weeks Josh left the band to work on his religious duties, but he returned in a similar way to Rob. In a few weeks, Rise To Attack will enter the studio to record a proper demo, today they are recording rough originals and covers to cassette tape for release to the public.
