Rise & Shine is a duo from Brooklyn, Ny. Consisting of Ali:Bey aka Greezy and Hashim Mihsah aka Silky Hash. They have performed with artist such as Jay-Z, EPMD, Kool G Rap Ludacris, The Roots, Erykah Badu, dead prez, BlackStar, Common, M.O.P, Souls of Mischief and many more. They have recorded with Dj Premier, Kurupt, Orko, Akil of Jurassic 5, Earatik Statik and Planet Asia. They have released music with labels such as Rawkus and Sequence. As well as their own label Tuff Love Ent. Which is set to release their debut album "MAJORiTy RULEZ".
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Ali:Bey and Hashim combine to form musics next elite super power known to New York and LA hip hop circuits as Rise And Shine. However their stomping grounds are not limited to NY or LA. These artists have left impressions on crowds in: Boston, Copenhagen, Rhode Island, Switzerland, Philadelphia, Austria, D.C., Virginia, Poland, Germany, Atlanta, Baltimore, Toronto, San Diego, and the Carolinas. With the rest of the free world in their sights, these two young men are prepared to make history.
Armed with their captivating stage presence and superior music they have held their own at shows with artist equipped with major label backing, such as: Jay Z, Mos Def, Kool G Rap, Common, M.O.P., The Roots, Martin Luther, dead prez, Tank, Ghostface Killah, Les Nubians, Slum Village, and Bilal.
At these shows they have performed with DJ's, CD's, DATS and even live musicians from groups such as The Welfare Poets, G.A.M.E & Survival Sounds. Their drummer is no other than Ol Dirty Bastard's older brother Ramsey Jones. After each performance they were approached by audience members who asked where can I purchase your music? This prompted the group to press their own CD Fire in the Sky which sold 7,000 units. They have sold CD's to many of today's biggest names, including Denzel Washington, the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez of T.L.C, N.B.A athlete Nick Van Exel, Ice T, Questlove, Stic man of dead prez and DJ Scratch of E.P.M.D and Roc-A-Fella fame. The success of the CD led to two singles released on Rawkus: Confess your Sins and Move your Body which moved 10,000 and 20,000 units respectively. "Move your Body" proved to be a street classic as well as global chart topper, premiering in the top ten globally.
Driven to progress, Rise and Shine has formed their own multi media company. Tuff Love Entertainment. Gotcha Back a song produced by DJ Premier of Gang Starr was the first project released by Tuff Love, in 10 months it has moved 15,000 units. They have also released Stop Playin another single showcasing Chicago super group Earatik Statik produced by Panik of The Mole Men, which has moved 3,000 units in two months. Majority Rules, the groups next full length LP will be released Summer 2003. It features the dynamic production of Hashim, and was recorded in Center of the Sun Studios, Brooklyn, NY, which is owned and operated by the group. This as well as up and coming projects by Orko Alien, Faceless Rebels and T.Mills is another step toward self sufficiency and the movement being built by The Infinite Rise And Shine
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We play live all of the time. We use a band, cd's, dj's or just our voices. Our band includes Ramsey Jones on drums who is Ol Dirty Bastards brother as well as Djibril and Emi. Who have played with artist such as Wu-Tang Clan, The Roots and Martin Luther.
