Riot Squad
Riot Squad: We are an extremely talented and original multi-racial hip hop group consisting of two MCs and one producer. The MCs, KnockOut and Versatyle, have differing styles and excellent chemistry together. Emphasizing lyrics and delivery, the duo combine to drop some impressive vocals, whether it be an introspective message-filled track or a traditional braggadocio-packed battle song. Casey Wells, the group's producer, is musically adept at many instruments and creates a vivid and unique sound. One that balances the line of credibility and commercial appeal. Formed in 1997, The Riot Squad have turned down several label offers and are still hoping for the right deal to come along. Listen to the music and judge for yourself if they have what it takes.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
KnockOut and Versatyle met through a mutual friend in 1995 and decided to form a group after one fateful cypher freestyle session. After a few years of wasting time with lukewarm producers with no direction, they linked up with Knockout's cousin Casey, a multi-talented musician who decided to try his hand at producing. The rest is history.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We have played many performances in the local Atlanta area, and now that our independent cd The Virgin Sacrifice on Ground Floor Entertainment has been released, we are expanding and look to doseveral shows throughout the southeast and beyond.
Your musical influences
We have a wide range of influences. From hip hop acts such as OutKast, The Roots, and Nas, to Marvin Gaye, Sarah Maclaughlin, and Nirvana. A range of eclectic tastes provides us with a unique sound. But don't get confused. We are 100% hip hop.
Anything else?
Listen to the music and let us know what you think. Feedback and opinions are very important to us. Tell us what you like and don't like. Hopefully we have a little something for everyone.
