With a wide variety of sounds including folk, funk and jazz, Rift has been able to create a groovy buzz wherever they go. As a "band that defies description," (Bullfrogmusic.com) Rift combines influences such as Bob Marley, Dave Matthews and Stevie Wonder with their own unique blend, creating a style that appeals to a diverse crowd, young and old. "I never dreamed that we'd make it this far," says Rift's lead man, Scott Gossen, referring to the success of Rift's newest album: Songs for the Road Ahead, as well as a number of recently packed out shows. "Our goal is to make original music that anyone can enjoy and appreciate. We're here to stay."
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes, we love it! There is nothing like it when people are into your music and the energy is high. That feeds us and inspires us to push ourselves. We work hard to develop our playing so that our live show is entertaining and groovy.
We mostly play in the St. Catharines area including Hamilton and Niagara Falls.
Your musical influences
Rift is about creating exciting music with depth and accessibility.
One of the most important things to us is groove. If a song doesn't groove, it doesn't work. We also love to jam out our tunes and listen to how the song may progress through spontenaity. Our influences are Steely Dan, Dave Matthews Band, David Gray and Ben Harper to name a few.
What equipment do you use?
Scott: Martin D-35 acoustic guitar
Jason: Fender Telecaster (American), Fender Hot Rod Deluxe
Adrian: Fender Precision bass, Ampeg amp
Matt: Sonor Drums, Zildjian Cymbals
