Ridn High Beats

Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I took an interest in music at a very young age. I started out scratching my moms old school vinyl on her sony turntable in about the 4th grade. My Uncle's George & Danny Boy were also D.J.'s, so I was exposed to all types of music at family functions. Mostly Funk, Electric Funk, Disco, Oldies, and Old School Hip-Hop. They also had friends that played in bands, so I was also exposed to live music. In the 5th grade I played the Alto Saxaphone, and then switched to the Trumpet in the 7th grade. I started getting into trouble in the 8th grade, and temporary lost interest in music. In the 10th grade is when I picked music back up. I joined up with a group called "Latin Impact" and were entering a talent show, that we eventualy miserabely failed at. My dad had bought me a Radio Shack, Realistic brand 2-channel mixer that I used in conjunction with my moms same vinyl and turntable to teach myself how to fade, and transform. That same year he bought me my first drum machine. It was a Yamaha, and only had four sounds, but I made the best of what I had. Gang life caught up to my family in 95' and we lost almost everything. After the shell shock wore off, I wanted to start tampering with music again, but the equipment I needed was to expensive and way out of reach. In 2000, I enrolled at Sac City College studio techniques classes, but only attended one day because the police impounded my car the very next day...on my way to a job interview. In 2001 I landed a career, and took another shot at music in 2003. I used my OT, and side hustle earnings to start purchasing my equipment that I own today. Most of the time I am too tired to get on it, but now I am more interested than ever. With all odds stacked against me, I am still trying to make it happen, so the moral of the story is...NEVER GIVE UP!!!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I have once, when I was in a group called "Latin Impact" in 92' or 93'. We were in a talent show for Grant High School, and the two other members sucked! They got stage fright, and unfortunately their verses were before mine, so we were booed off the stage. We were even given a second chance to perform, but they froze up again. All those practice sessions earned me a valuable lesson...YOU CANNOT DEPEND ON ANYBODY BUT YOURSELF!!!
