Riddle on the Harp

Riddle on the Harp is made up of three housewives who are anything but bored! The Riddle women's diverse repertoire includes traditional tunes, lively celtic jigs, international folk music, original compositions, as well as hymns and children’s lullabies. You will hear unusual instrumental arrangements as well as vocal harmonies; we hope our music will make folks laugh, cry, dance, clap, or even relax and nod off. You can hear some tunes for our new CD at: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=799181
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Our band is made up of several women from Bedford County, VA. What started out as two neighbors learning traditional tunes from America and the British Isles gave birth to something more. We just think of it as a series of miracles. You can check out the magazine article with a bit of our background (starts on page 14 of the magazine): http://law.wlu.edu/magazine/fall2007/
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
RIDDLE plays regularly at area coffeehouses, "First Fridays" concerts, restaurants, weddings, and private parties. We also play at outdoor festivals. We were honored to play at the Grand Opening Reception for the new Bedford Area Visitors Center (at the entrance to the National D-Day Memorial). We also include periodic charitable performances that benefit our community in some way. You can catch samples of our music here at Soundclick or on our main website (www.riddleontheharp.com).
What equipment do you use?
Our instruments include guitar, bowed psaltery, flute, recorder, harp, mandolin, bodhran, and hammered dulcimer, but we always seem to be on the lookout for just one more. . . Several of our instruments were handcrafted by James Jones, a well-known local luthier. We haul around our own sound system - 20 channel Yamaha mixer, monitors and speakers etc.
Anything else?
We released our first CD "The Riddle" in 2003 and our second one, a Christmas CD, "The Gift" in 2005. Our newest CD "The Song" was released in December 2008. Our CDs and T-shirts are available online through www.riddleontheharp.com
