Richie Roots
2002 marks the launch of Black Mind Records as an opportunity for new and establish reggae artists to tap into my music. Founder and CEO, I began as a reggae artist. Throughout 2007, there were signs that the Black Mind umbrella should concentrate on the Roots and Culture, and Lovers Rock spectrum of the reggae music. I sang with artists like Dennis Brown, and Jacob Miller, Jose Whales, Nicodemus, Ninja Man, Tiger, Victor Ranks, Mad Cobra, Lecturer, Ragga Lox, Horace Andy, Glen Washington, Half Pint, and others. I worked with artist like, Capleton, Kulcha Knox, Uplifter, Prince Pankhi, Ragga Lox, Zahaire, Jah Bless, Joseph I, and many others
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Before coming to the United States, Richie Roots was with Winston(Merri Tone)Blake, and sang on stages with bands like Zap Pow, Inner Circles, Charles Hanna And The Graduates, Hells Angel, and sang with artists like Dennis Brown, and Jacob Miller. But because of him being in the army, his flexibility was limited.
Richie Roots migrated to the United States in 1980. He was re-discovered by friends who urged him to sing. He started singing in dance halls with sounds like Black Ovation, Silver Shadow, Fatal Attraction, Jamerican, Pappa Moke High Power, and Down Beat The Ruler, and on stages with band like Exchange, Music Masters and others, with artists like Jose Whales, Nicodemus, Ninja Man, Tiger, Victor Ranks, Mad Cobra, Lecturer, Ragga Lox, Horace Andy, Glen Washington, Half Pint, and others.
Richie Roots created the Black Mind Label and recorded his first song, "Loving You", followed by, "Fight With All My Might", "Hi Hello", and his hit single, "Cruising". All recorded and mixed at Phillip Smart's HC&F studio. He then went behind the scene to build his studio and to help in the development of other artists
1997 mark the launch of Black Mind Recording, the company, as an opportunity for him to showcase his music and talent, as he write, sing, arrange, and produce. Working deligently in front and behind the scene proved advantageous for him in developing his own style of music. When not in th studio working, or spending time with his family, he enjoy reading, and listening to music
