In a world of aspiring folk artists where recurrent lyrics harbor both oppression and lack of optimism, Rheanna Downeys songs manage to draw back the shades of monotony and reveal a glimmer of hope. Her powerful, stylish, wide-ranged vocals grab her audiences and take them on a journey through her personal struggles and the resulting spiritual victories. (Someone else wrote this about me)
Band/artist history
The actual band that plays with me has been up and running for a short while now, but we are doing quite well. Weve played a few venues and continue to grow in many ways. I myself have been playing live on a regular basis for about six years. Ive played in the bay area, Central California, Southern California, New Mexico, and the list goes on
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes, yes. Everywhere I can, or get asked to play. I really like intimate venues where I can grab audiences. I love to play live, it's a slightly nervous breath of fresh air.)
Your musical influences
My guitar playing is probably influenced by Ani Difranco with a touch of bluegrass. My voice, most certainly by the widely known Sarah McMahan, and perhaps some Buckley. I have an affinity for soul, blues, roots country, and jazz. A good mix of inspiration I think.
What equipment do you use?
I am fairly simple; I have my guitar, and an electric when I can get my hands on one, and a piano from time to time. My band consists of a drummer who occasionally jumps on cajon, and my bass player who does quite well with a guitar as well.
Anything else?
We hope to see more people and generate more of a following, but the journey has been great so far! Eventually the website, RheannaDowney.com, will be up and running, but until then we function off of Email lists and phone calls. Kind of like the old days, eh...
