Indiana born singer/songwriter Rex P. Clem began his musical career performing in the local honkytonks of his central Indiana home at the age of 13. By the time he graduated high school, he already had an impressive resume of performance credits. In his own words, he has shared the stage with some incredible players, writers, and singers. Some well known, and some that should be. Rex has opened shows for Country artists such as David Allan Coe, Keith Whitley, Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Reba McEntire, Holly Dunn, Lee Greenwood, Tommy Cash, and many more. He has also worked with artists like The Marshal Tucker Band, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet, Duke Tumato, and Gene Deer. Over the years he has been on several television programs including Star Search, The Charlie Daniels Show, The Bobby Helms Show, and Midwest Country. Now living in Nashville, Tennessee...Rex has turned to his true love, writing and playing the Blues. His style of Country Blues has caught the attention of a number of Blues Hour radio programs across the nation as well as overseas. Not leaving his roots in Country Music behind, he continues to play on numerous sessions as well as writing and pitching songs of his own. Catch him at a live show, listen to the tunes, or stop by Superior Music in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee where he teaches Bass,Guitar, and Mandolin.
Band/artist history
Well now, let me try and think. I started playing the guitar at 10 when I begged for one to my Father. I formed my first band, Euphoria, the following year. We played a couple of shows for our school and I was offered the spot of Bassist with the local cool High school group. Being twelve at the time, I jumped at the chance. I borrowed a Bass from a friend and that was that. By the time I hit High school, I was playing in a country band that ran "the Animal Circuit" around Indiana. After graduation, we travelled the US and Canada in an old GM Coach. It's never a good idea to let a group of 18 year old boys loose playing bars on the road. After several years of motel rooms, road women and, various addictions, I returned to Indiana. Had two fine sons and tried to work for a living. Well, now I'm playin' the Blues in Nashville, Tennessee. You can't take the music out of the boy! I have had the pleasure of performing with and opening for some great musicians and artists. Some well known and some that should be. Some of the groups that I have been in are: The Aces, the Swinging Johnsons (my favorite name of all time), RebelStorm, Dixie Flyer, Wild at Heart, Gary West and the Wild West, Bigg Country. Some of my favorite memories include; the first time I got to open for David Allan Coe, opening for Keith Whitley, Marshall Tucker, Holly Dunn, Blackfoot, Saywer Brown, Brad Paisley, Doug Stone, and some others that escape my mind at this moment. Playing with Tommy Cash and Mark Cash was a hoot. Doing "Star Search" was pretty cool. Lost though, that sucked. Getting kicked out of Jamestown, North Dakota! That's a story in itself. Performing on the Charlie Daniels show, Midwest Country. Over all, I have been blessed by God to get to do what I love and be where I am in life. Thanks to all who have had a hand in that. Thanks to my wonderful Wife for everything you do. How I ever got lucky enough to find you, I will never know. You are the world to me. Thanks to my two wonderful sons. You are the reason I exist. God Bless.
