The three artists, G. Whyte, Smiley Chris, & Brian H. formerly known as "Da Honkeys" began the Resurrected Souljas in Summer 2004. As THE preceding Drum Major at Freeport High, Brian Halton a.k.a NYC's Finest returned to Freeport High School after his 1st year in college and used his pre-established connections in the music department to recruit the most talented members from the 2004 Freeport High School Marching Band and Select Chorale to complete his group. Email us if you want to collaborate with the Resurrected Souljas under the What Good Entertainment label created by the Halton brothers for Summer 2009!!!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes we play live. We have played at various locations: Youth Fest 2004 This was the biggest concert of the year for us and maybe the biggest public display of faith ever accomplished by our group. Performing at this retreat, sponsored by Brian and Smiley's youth group (OHR of Freeport, NY), we were proud to perform for this group of (what was said to be) 1000. We opened with "You Are My Master" that featured an opening rap by Smiley. Bri jammed away at the key board, singing heart felt lyrics while Gary played bass and Alex played guitar. Then all of the Souljas took the stage and performed "The Covenant". Since Brandon couldn't make it, Bri rapped his verse, Smiley performed his as regular. The chorus was sung by Elise, Danny O, and Jeff. Following that song was "I Want More". We had a disadvantage because Andrew B couldn't be there to play the drums, so we had to get a sample of his recorded drum session to play in the background. With Elise, Jeff, and Bri on vocals and The Incredible Team rapping, it worked out very well. Our closing song was the live rendition of "Sanctuary." It was the highlight of the night because it began to rain and everyone ran under the tent so our audience became so much bigger then we expected. We truly "played in the reign"...the reign of God!!!!!!!!
Your musical influences
Fort minor/ Rising Tied, specifically Mike Shinoda's "High Road," "Where'd you go," "Right Now" and "Remember the Name"...the energy on these tracks is highly comparable to the incredibly positive energy on R. Souljas' tracks.
What equipment do you use?
Inside Whatz Good Studios, our sound engineer Smiley Chris runs the show. We have the M-box, Pro-tools, Casio Keyboards, Drums, Guitars, Violins, Trumpets, Windows Media Player, iTunes, Shure Microphones, and whatever we can find to help us be creative!
