Band/artist history
Members of the band
The Razn Kayn Band started in the fall of 1992. It wasn't actually intended to be a performing band, but rather three guys who were getting together to play some music in the garage.Comprised of Denny VanWeelden (bass), Rusty Rush (guitar), and Bob Buntin (drums); the band members enjoyed classic rock and blues music most, but also enjoyed some of the newer country that was being recorded as well. Deciding to concentrate on the music they grew up with, classic rock was their main venue. Each of them had been lead singers in previous bands. Because of this, the lead vocals were always backed by tight and close harmonies. Vocal renditions of songs by Kansas and the Eagles became signiture songs for this cover trio.
Bob and Denny had played together in the 70's, performing light rock and "lounge" in a road band for about 7 years, touring much of the US.Following the road experience, they each went separate ways in various careers until getting together for RKB.
Rusty played rhythm guitar throuout much of the 80's in a few bands. Most notable was a popular local band called Destiny. He joined Bob & Denny as a venue that would allow him the opportunity to learn lead guitar.
Although it was never intended to get "LIVE" bookings, one day a call came in from a local Findlay social club at 7PM; seeking a replacement band for one that had cancelled. They needed a band ASAP that could get started at 8:30 PM. Well they accepted the challenge and got on stage by 9:00 PM. The audience actually enjoyed their music. They received several subsequent booking from this, it was decided that perhaps they had what was needed to book other clubs and bars. Soon they had a steady list of engagements around the NW Ohio area.Things remained pretty consistant in the band until 2006. Denny VanWeeldens general health degraded and both Rusty and Bob were concerned that the band's heavy playing schedule would not alow Denny's health to improve. . On January 2, 2007 bassist Rich Hassan was selected to perminately replace Denny VanWeelden in the band.Rich and Bob played in the RubberBand Band together throughout the late 80's and early 90's. Each being aware of the talent and personality of the other made it an excellant fit. Although Rich does not sing in the band, his unique playing style and outgoing stage presence more than makes up for the vocal absence.Rusty and Bob still harmonize and each shares the lead vocal role, They have made changes in their typical harmony structure and modified several song arrangement. The combination of talant each member provides in this power trio is geared to one unmistakable goal. Providing an atmosphere for those who want to P A R T Y. This band doesn't care about formalities, You wanna sing live karaoke, come on up and join the band. ZZ Top, B.B. King or Bad Company, no problem, They always have room for one more to sing with them. It's all about having fun.Being a trio, they are able to squeeze into small clubs or bars and are typically less costly than larger venue bands. Because of this, they get on a more direct or intimate basis with their fans. They love their music a lot, but they truly love their loyal fan base more.If you haven't yet heard or raised cane with Razn Kayn, you should, if you have, then you understand. Love em or leave em, we are for real and we love rock-n-roll.
