Raygun Girls
Welcome to the world of The Raygun Girls, a gothic/industrial influenced hard rock band.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
The Raygun Girls is a guitar-driven, head-banging group from New York in the style of Killing Joke, Ministry, KMFDM and Lords of Acid. The band was formed in early 2000 as a respite from a heavy metal band that was going nowhere. Geoff and, former founder, Jamie began to experiment with songwriting and sounds, using the computer to its fullest potential. Because there were only two people involved, the original idea was for The Raygun Girls to be a studio group.
After spending two years honing their songwriting skills, and allowing Geoff to find his voice, recording for ?Mars Eclipsing? began in mid 2002. During the recording sessions, a search began for a female vocalist to counter-balance Geoff?s rough gravel-throated vocals. Through some carefully orchestrated maneuvers, Janine Innamorato, from the Long Island folk band Buddha Box, was coaxed into singing.
As the recording sessions continued, and samples were passed around to garner opinions, it was quickly realized that a live version of the group was going to have to be created. At this time Geoff was also in a Punk band, The Orgasmabots, which had recently committed suicide, so Geoff recruited the bass player/vocalist George for the live version of The Raygun Girls.
Practices for world domination have begun.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
The Raygun Girls was originally a studio group, but after previewing songs off of "Mars Eclipsing" to friends, it was quickly realized that the Raygun Girls would have to go live. Feb 6, 04, was our debut show.
