Ravenhill plays hybrid psychedelic pop-rock, melodic and noisy at the same time, jazz and punk, seeming to shoot up from ancient times but avoiding the trap of nostalgy, with lyrics inspired by secret history of Lyon, antic and modern mythologies and of course the trinity : Sex, drugs & rock’n roll.Band/artist history
It all begun in 1999 ( year of the devil ? ) in Lyon when Sylvain, lunar multi-instrumentist, got to know Niko, beatnik guitarist with “televisual” play, around a cheap whisky bottle after school at St Just. They formed a first band, parodying Lou Reed without even knowing him. Its composition changed regularly and Sylvain occupied successively the post of drummer and bassist.
Owing to the lack of implication of its other members the band split in 2004; Niko and Sylvain exorcised this period by sledgehammering their studio to pieces. In 2006, the latter took up singing and recorded his own demos getting by as best he could. In 2007, well determined to reform a band, he met Bill Bokey, bearded hendrixian guitarist perched in the Beaujolais hills ( and the 70’s ), with whom with whom he starts working on the previously recorded songs. Soon they recalled Niko to arms and went in search of a rythmic section.
They celebrated the advent of a new era at “Willstock jam festival” organized that summer in Bill’s court. It’s in november that they finally found their happiness with Philoons and Moïse, bassist and drummer knited together and providing hypnotic experimental grooves. The band now complete is called RAVENHILL.
It plays hybrid psychedelic pop-rock, melodic and noisy at the same time, jazz and punk, seeming to shoot up from ancient times but avoiding the trap of nostalgy, with lyrics inspired by secret history of Lyon, antic and modern mythologies and of course the trinity : Sex, drugs & rock’n roll.Have you performed in front of an audience?Sure. Check out our myspace for details. Best live was definitely the Willstock Jam Festival one.
