RANDY DAWSON BIOGRAPHY
When you experience the natural flow of Randy singing and playing guitar, it is obvious he has been doing it for a long time. At the time he turned pro in 1975 he had a growing reputation in the Peterborough area.
While spending the next four years touring, Randy played from Vancouver, B.C. to St. John’s Newfoundland and most points in between, before settling in Toronto.
Randy/s tune “COMING TO GET YA”, recorded with his band DAWSON CITY was included as one of twelve tracks on the second Q-107 FM Radio Homegrown album in 1980 ( released in Toronto, Canada).
In 1982, after playing many club dates in Toronto, Randy assembled a road band to tour with talented singer/entertainer Debra Lauren who would soon host CBC’s “COUNTRY WEST” TV show.
He also performed for a year with the Dublin Corporation show band before joining Steve Thomson’s Backstage Productions (former management for Ronnie Hawkins) as musical director for several acts in their roster.
In 1989 and 1990 Randy had successive wins with original material for a homegrown album by Peterborough’s CKPT AM radio station with his songs “LOVE SAD EYES” and “TIME” performed by the newly formed RANDY DAWSON GROUP.
Since returning to Toronto in 1990 he has performed and recorded with many of the city’s finest musicians as well as two albums with former Manfred Mann lead guitarist David Flett.
In 1994, on the strength of his career resume and vocal talents, Randy was admitted into ACTRA under the Professional Reputation category and can be seen in numerous American/Canadian TV shows and movies. Since that time he has sang on several radio commercials including the lead in Paramount Canada’s Wonderland radio jingle (1998) and The Toronto Sportsman Show (2001).
Randy has gone on to tour in the Middle East (Dubai U.A.E.), the Far East (Seoul, Korea)) and Costa Rica.
DAWSON regularly performs around the Toronto area as a freelance performer, solo or fronting the RANDY DAWSON GROUP.
